Proton Huber Competition celebrates double victory in Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany anniversary race

Alexander Tauscher celebrates his first victory in the 400th race of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland - Larry ten Voorde extends his lead at the top of the standings.

The fifth race weekend of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany took place at the Nürburgring. After a summer break of around seven weeks, the spectacular one-make cup returned as part of the DTM. Proton Huber Competition entered a total of five Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars on the traditional circuit. In addition to championship leader Larry ten Voorde, his compatriot Flynt Schuring, Horst Felix Felbermayr, Sebastian Freymuth and Alexander Tauscher started for the team.

The drivers of the team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria already put in a strong performance in qualifying on Friday. Larry ten Voorde took pole position for the first race, followed by Tauscher and Schuring in third and fifth place. Tauscher secured the best grid position for Sunday's race - his first pole position in the traditional racing series. Ten Voorde and Schuring followed in third and fifth place on the grid.

Saturday's race took place in difficult conditions. Light rain set in a few minutes before the race, but stopped again in time for the start. The Carrera Cup drivers delivered a hard-fought race in which Larry ten Voorde finished second and scored important points for the championship. Flynt Schuring was in third place until the last lap before losing two positions after a small driving error and finishing the race in fifth place and second in the rookie classification. Sebastian Freymuth finished the race in seventh place, his best result in the series - Horst Felix Felbermayr finished eleventh. Alexander Tauscher was unable to finish the race. After losing the front lip, he slid into the gravel with reduced downforce and retired.

The 400th race in the long history of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany took place on Sunday. Alexander Tauscher dominated the race from his first pole position at the front and drove to a much-acclaimed victory. ‘My first victory, and in my 400th Carrera Cup race - I simply have no words,’ said the young Bavarian after the race.

Second place went to his team-mate Larry ten Voorde, meaning that Proton Huber Competition celebrated a double victory. ‘Alexander really deserved the win: he was fastest in qualifying and controlled the race,’ said ten Voorde, praising his young team-mate, whom he also supports as a coach. With his second place, he extends his lead in the standings. Flynt Schuring finished the race in eighth place, once again taking second place in the rookie classification. Felbermayr and Freymuth had to end the race prematurely after collisions.

‘The weekend went extremely well for us. After a perfect Friday, four of our cars finished in the top 11 on Saturday and then there was the fantastic double victory on Sunday,’ said Franziska Lambacher, summarising the race weekend in the Eifel. ‘Our entire team is extremely happy for Alexander that he was finally able to fully prove his ability after all his bad luck and win the second race. Our entire team will never forget these jubilant pictures!’

After five of eight race weekends, Larry ten Voorde leads the championship by 24 points. Alexander Tauscher is in sixth place after his first Carrera Cup victory. Proton Huber Competition also leads the team standings. Christoph Huber's team has a lead of 69 points and took a big step towards the title in the Eifel. Flynt Schuring, who celebrated his 18th birthday shortly before the race weekend at the Nürburgring, is in third place in the rookie classification.

Proton Huber Competition's next race weekend in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany will take place in three weeks' time at the Sachsenring. Before that, the Bavarian racing team will compete in the remaining two race weekends of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Zandvoort and Monza in Italy.
