Proton Huber Competition with rookie podium in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup

Alexander Tauscher secured Proton Huber Competition's first rookie podium of the 2024 season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Hungary.

Fifth race weekend of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The international one-make series traditionally made a appearance at the Hungaroring near Budapest as part of the Hungarian GP. Proton Huber Competition entered four Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. In addition to the regular drivers Sebastian Freymuth, Roar Lindland and Alexander Tauscher, Horst Felix Felbermayr made another guest start.

The team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria travelled to Mogyoród with the experience gained from the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany - which made a appearance on the Hungarian circuit in June - and from extensive testing. In qualifying, Tauscher and Freymuth finished 14th and 16th before the team's two other cars followed at the back of the field.

In the race, the Proton Huber Competition drivers put in a strong performance. While many drivers received penalties due to track limit offences, the drivers of the Bavarian team remained fault-free and were able to move up a few positions on the course, which is considered to be hostile to overtaking. Alexander Tauscher and Sebastian Freymuth scored important points in 10th and 14th place. Felbermayr and Lindland followed in positions 20 and 21.

Alexander Tauscher also finished third in the rookie classification and was thus able to celebrate on the podium in front of the Formula 1 fans for the first time - a special moment for the racing driver from Mittelfels! "We had the potential to do this all season, but unfortunately we've had a lot of bad luck in the races so far. We were finally able to reward ourselves for our hard work over the last few months. Now I hope it continues like this in the coming races," says a delighted Alexander Tauscher.

"We knew it would be difficult, that was already the case a few weeks ago in the German Cup and the free practice and qualifying sessions reflected that," said Michael Dirsch, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup project manager at Proton Huber Competition. "Our guys did a great job in the race. There were so many infringements due to track limits, but they kept it clean and didn't incur any penalties. They were rewarded with points and Alex with a great podium in the rookie classification. He fought like a lion, and in the end a 0.7-second lead over fourth place made the difference in his favour. A big thank you also to Horst Felix, who once again competed as a guest entrant to gain even more experience in the Supercup and to fight with the big boys once again."

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup continues next weekend! The sixth race weekend will take place on the Ardennes eight-track at Spa-Francorchamps. To prepare for the event, the Bavarian racing team has completed extensive test drives on the traditional circuit. "Our goal is clear, we would like to collect even more points and build on our performance in Hungary," concludes Dirsch.
