After the first round at Imola in mid-May was cancelled due to the regional severe weather situation, the series will now begin its racing season with sunshine, palm trees and a sea breeze. Monte Carlo has another unique feature: Lack of space. But what drives real estate agents crazy makes the city a coveted trophy in the racing circus. Its narrow streets, with their world-famous corners, straights and uphill climbs, are a particular challenge for drivers.
From talent and precision to courage and experience, the drivers have to put everything on the line to win. Any mistake can quickly lead to an accident or retirement, and the lack of run-off areas adds to the excitement and unpredictability of the race. In short, the perfect mix for thrilling racing.

Last year and the year before, #25 Larry ten Voorde (NLD/Team GP Elite) drove from pole position to victory in Monte Carlo. The street circuit suits him – which makes him a serious podium favourite again this year. Ten Voorde is joined in the field by another former Monaco winner: Dutchman #14 Jaap van Lagen, now in the cockpit of Dinamic Motorsport, who won here in 2015 with team Martinet by Alméras.
Many Supercup drivers know Monaco from past races, but for some it will be a new experience. Part of the excitement of a race weekend in the Principality is seeing how rookies like #6 Gustav Burton (GBR/FACH AUTO TECH) or #18 Keagan Masters (ZAF/Ombra Racing), as well as new drivers like #13 Michael Verhagen (NLD/CLRT), handle the barriers.
Another exciting development is the entry of #9 Jorge Lorenzo as a permanent driver for Team Huber Racing. Last year he started as a VIP driver in the Porsche Supercup at Imola, but this year the multiple MotoGP World Champion will be competing in the pinnacle of the international Porsche one-make series in earnest.
