Rutronik Racing aims to end the season on a high in Jeddah
Rutronik Racing will line up with two Porsche 911 GT3 Rs for the season finale of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup in Jeddah - the team still has a mathematical chance of winning the Bronze Cup title.
This year's season finale of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup will take place at a special venue: For the first time, the popular SRO racing series will start on the Formula 1 circuit in Jeddah. Rutronik Racing will compete with two Porsche 911 GT3 R cars on the spectacular circuit in Saudi Arabia.
The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is a 6.174-kilometre city circuit directly on the Corniche of the harbour metropolis. The high-speed circuit is characterised by its long straights and ultra-fast combinations of corners - its location directly on the Red Sea and the fact that the race is held in the dark add a special flair. For the first time, a GT race will be held on the racetrack, which opened in 2021. The SAL Jeddah GT Race will cover a distance of six hours and will be one of the absolute highlights of the season in the Fanatec GT World.
Sven Müller, Patric Niederhauser and Julien Andlauer will compete in the team's top car with the starting number #96. The three drivers have shown good speed so far in this year's Endurance Cup season, but have also had a lot of bad luck: at their home race at the Nürburgring, for example, they were hit by a competitor in the first corner from the best grid position and retired. The trio's best result so far is a fifth place at the season opener in Le Castellet. Things went better in the Sprint Cup, where Müller and Niederhauser recently clinched the first overall victory for a Porsche in Barcelona!
The team's sister car will compete in the highly competitive Bronze Cup. Dennis Marschall, American Dustin Blattner and Loek Hartog from the Netherlands will drive the #97 Porsche, with Hartog returning after having to miss the last Endurance Cup race in Monza due to a clash of dates. The three drivers won the Bronze Cup classification at the Nürburgring. Blattner and Marschall took a further two class victories in the Sprint Cup at Magny Cours and Barcelona.
After the three victories so far this season, Dustin Blattner, in his first full season in GT3 racing, and 24h Nürburgring winner Dennis Marschall can still mathematically clinch the title in the Bronze Cup classification of the GT World Challenge Europe - the combined classification of the Endurance and Sprint Cup - in Jeddah. With 34 points still up for grabs, the two Rutronik Racing drivers are 22.5 points behind. A special prize awaits the title winners: a starting place in the LMGT3 class of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans in June 2025.
The race weekend on the challenging street circuit in Jeddah begins on Thursday with a test day, which the teams will use to find the perfect set-up as quickly as possible and allow the drivers to familiarise themselves with the circuit. Two more extensive practice sessions will follow on Friday before qualifying and the race take place on Saturday. It will be particularly important over the race weekend that the drivers do not make any mistakes, as any contact with the concrete walls around the track can have serious consequences.
The six-hour SAL Jeddah GT Race will start on Saturday, 30 November at 15:00 German time (17:00 local time). The three-part qualifying session will take place at 9.45 a.m. German time. SRO will broadcast all sessions from Friday's practice onwards in the official livestream on YouTube. The broadcast will be offered in German and English, among other languages.
Klaus Graf, Team Principal Rutronik Racing: ‘We are breaking new ground with the trip to Jeddah! This is certainly a special event for Rutronik Racing and the Fanatec GT World. It will also be the first race in the history of our team in Saudi Arabia. We are very much looking forward to the six-hour race! At the same time, the aim will be to get the cars over the distance well in the Jeddah guardrail channel. I think whoever doesn't make any mistakes over the distance will come out on top in the end and that should be our goal! We still have a good chance of finishing among the front runners in the championship with both cars. Patric, Sven and Julien in the Pro car still have the prospect of third place in the overall standings and the bronze car can even win the title in the overall standings! That's why it's important to get the maximum out of it, internalise the track quickly and then not make any mistakes for six hours!’
Patric Niederhauser, driver Porsche 911 GT3 R #96: ‘The track in Jeddah looks extremely demanding and I'm looking forward to the challenge of getting to know a new circuit again. Our goal, of course, is to take the momentum from Barcelona with us and end the season on a high.’
Dennis Marschall, driver Porsche 911 GT3 R #97: ‘The race in Jeddah will be extremely demanding. Almost nobody knows the track and with 49 cars at the same time it will be difficult to find a rhythm. But I'm looking forward to the task, because it will definitely be a weekend where you drive with a little more adrenalin than usual in the car.’
