Sold out stands with 25,000 people following the action at Interlagos of Porsche Cup Brazil

After visiting Portugal, the Porsche Cup Brasil returned to the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, in Interlagos, São Paulo, for the penultimate stage of the sprint championship. With tickets sold out and 25,000 people filling the stands and hospitality areas, the category defined the candidates for the title in the 2024 season before the last stage, in the preliminary round of the São Paulo Formula 1 GP.

The Interlagos stage had 69 cars registered in total, a new record for the category as a whole. In the Carrera Cup, there were 30 992 generation cars, with 22 991.2 in the Sprint Challenge and a further 17 991.2 in the Sprint Trophy. The weather, however, was yet another challenge: after training in the heat, the races were held in the cold and, on Sunday, in the rain. For the first time this year, the category had two qualifyings, one for each race of the weekend. Because of this, 56 points were distributed on this meeting.

Saturday started with cloudy weather on the 4,309 meter route with 15 curves. The first Carrera Cup race of the weekend was held on a dry track. Despite several safety car entries, the race had a great fight for victory. Marçal Müller overtook Pedro Aguiar on the outside in Senna's S and won the race. Miguel Paludo, his main rival in the fight for the title, was second after starting 14th. Peter Ferter, winner in Sport, was third, followed by Alceu Feldmann and Nelson Marcondes completing the podium. Gustavo Farah, tenth placed, was the winner in Rookie.

The first race of the Sprint Challenge started on a dry track, but with visibility getting worse every moment, as a storm approached the racetrack. After a beautiful dispute between Gerson Campos and Caio Castro for the lead of the race, Gerson remained ahead and won for the first time in the category in sprint events. Castro was second, with Célio Brasil, winner of Sport, in third; Miguel Mariotti in fourth and Sebá Malucelli in fifth. Caio Chaves, ninth placed, was the winner in Rookie.

The bad weather on Saturday postponed the Sprint Trophy qualifying to sunday morning. With Michelin wet tires, Silvio Morestoni took pole, with Gui Affonso in second. But at the start, the cars were equipped with slick tires, although there was still some water on the kerbs. José Moura Neto claimed the first victory in career in Porsche Cup, with pole position Silvio Morestoni in second place. Denis Ferrer, Gabriel Líber and Neto Heil completed the podium, with Heil also winning in the Sport class.

The Carrera Cup race started on the dry track. But the rain came early in the race and caught all the drivers with dry tires. But Christian Hahn, celebrating a ten-year career in motorsport, once again showed all his skill and car control on wet surfaces. The competitor in Porsche #26 showed off his entire repertoire. He made a beautiful maneuver on the outside at Curva do Sol and won for the second time this year.

The overtake added a special flavor to the penultimate stage of the calendar. The competitor who was beaten, Marçal Muller, finished the race in second and goes to the championship decision in the support event of the São Paulo F1 GP, strictly tied on points with the nine-time champion Miguel Paludo. The two have a total of 214 points after ten races. Paludo was third; Werner Neugebauer and Alceu Feldmann completed the podium. Peter Ferter won in the Sport class, and Eduardo Menossi in Rookie.

In the Sprint Challenge, the victory went to Miguel Mariotti from start to finish from pole. He regained the lead in the championship, greatly helped by a discreet campaign by the current champion, Antonella Bassani. Cristian Mohr drove his car in second place. Leonardo Herrmann was third, winning in Sport class. Gerson Campos and Caio Chaves, winner of the Rookie class, completed the podium.

The penultimate stage of the year also marked the first champion of the year among the six titles in dispute in the short race championship. The 16 years old Caio Chaves won again in Challenge Rookie and can no longer be caught by his pursuers, even if he is punished with black flags in the F1 preliminary races. Chaves is a strong candidate for revelation of the year in the category.

The Porsche Cup Brazil now holds its last meeting on the weekend of the Formula 1 São Paulo GP, on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of November, also at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, in Interlagos.
