Team Redline Racing Sign Adam Smalley For 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup GB
Team Redline Racing will be back to defend their Porsche Carrera Cup title this year, with a multi-car entry kicked off by the signing of 2022/23 Porsche GB Junior driver Adam Smalley.
After winning a record 11th Carrera Cup GB drivers’ title with Dan Cammish last year, the Teesside team’s quest for further success in 2022 will be spearheaded by the latest winner of Porsche’s coveted scholarship prize.
Smalley transitions to Porsche racing after making a name for himself with a brilliant spell in Ginetta competition. The Lancashire racer won the Ginetta Junior title in 2018, before adding the GT4 SuperCup crown last season with a spectacular run to seven race wins.
An exciting change for the 2022 Carrera Cup GB season sees the introduction of the new Porsche ‘Type 992’ 911 GT3 Cup. After an initial test with the team in Portugal last December, Smalley will now get to grips with the car during an extensive pre-season testing programme.
Simon Leonard – Managing Director: “We’re delighted to confirm our continued participation in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this season, and what better way to kick off our driver line-up than with the newly crowned Porsche GB Junior driver.
Adam is an immensely talented driver, as shown by his hugely successful few years in Ginetta’s and winning the Porsche scholarship. He impressed us with his immediate speed in the new-generation car and we’re confident he will be a force to be reckoned with this season.”
Adam Smalley: ““I’m delighted to be joining Team Redline Racing for my debut season in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. I felt an immediate connection with Simon [Leonard] and the team, and with their rich history in the championship, I’m confident I will have the people around me to enjoy a successful year.
“I’m really looking forward to getting the season underway in April. There’s some added pressure as the Porsche GB Junior, but we’ll be taking it round by round, building momentum and hopefully challenging right at the front of the field.”
Entering its 20th year in 2022, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB is one of the most competitive and exciting championships in the UK. Utilising identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, the series has been the launchpad for a number of professional sportscar and GT drivers.
The 2022 season will be contested over eight events at the best circuits in the UK, all in support of the British Touring Car Championship with live television coverage on ITV4. The opening rounds take place at Donington Park on 23/24 April.
