The countdown for the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia 2022 has begun

Young against old. Swedes against Norwegians. Former champions against those who want to be. Expect the Porsche Approved Cup to be something really special this year. A total of 14 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991 II) weigh in in the championship, which is part of the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia.

The countdown for the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia 2022 has begun. May 13-14, it explodes at Scandinavian Raceway in Anderstorp. The pre-talk is very much about reigning champion Lukas Sundahl, the challengers in Fragus Motorsport and comeback Ola Nilsson. All in the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992). But at least as interesting will be the duel in the Porsche Approved Cup, the class for those who have chosen to drive on in last year's model of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, 991 II. The starting field is a wasp nest of drivers of different ages and with varying backgrounds and qualifications.

161 race for Rantzow
The one with the most impressive C / V from competitors in Porsche is without a doubt Lars-Bertil Rantzow. The veteran from Skåne started competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup already in 2006 and at home in Båstad he has a whole prize locker full of trophies from the Scandinavian championship. Among other things, Rantzow has been second (2014) and third (2013) in total. In addition, he has two titles in the Masters Cup, the class for drivers over 40 years (2017 and 2019).

Lars-Bertil Rantzow has started in 161 Carrera Cup race! To date. At least 14 more are planned and that the veteran, who has reached the age of 62, is still involved, he showed during the official genre rehearsal at Mantorp Park recently. There he was noted for the third time among the drivers in the Porsche Approved Cup.

The fastest then was 43 years younger Hannes Morin, a newcomer to the championship whose only experience so far of the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia is a guest appearance in the 2020 season. However, Morin is a very successful karting driver with both national and international merits. As recently as last autumn, he finished second in the electricity class at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals and previously he has been fourth in the same competition, in the Rotax Max Senior class. But the 19-year-old Umeåkillen has also heard about himself in STCC where he both became junior champion and finished fourth in total (2020).

Double titles
At Mantorp Park, Patrick Rundquist made it between Morin and Rantzow in the results list. The Uppsala driver also has a Carrera Cup title in his luggage. In the 2020 season, he, together with Hugo Andersson, made sure that the team gold ended up at Steber Racing. This year, Rundqvist drives for Fragus Motorsport.
Christoffer Bergström shadowed Rundquist in the results list in the genre rope in Östergötland. The Team Pampas driver from Stockholm won double titles in last year's championship. In addition to the gold in the Masters Cup, he won the team championship for Sundahl Racing with Lukas Sundahl.

Trio Norwegians
Is the above-mentioned quartet to make up for race victories, podium places and the top three places in the championship table during the 14 race long season? Or can the duo with STCC experience in Micke Kågerad Racing, Andreas Ahlberg and Albin Wärnelöv, get involved in the game?

Kjelle Lejonkrans, teammate with the above-mentioned Rundquist, impressed at Mantorp Park and showed with fifth time there that he is not far from the top either.
The class also includes a trio of Norwegians, two of whom, Ole William Nærsnes and Roger Hermansen, have been top three in the Porsche Approved Cup before. In 2018, the second and third were behind the victorious Anton Marklund.
