Thrills and Spills at Spa - 2 Hour Porsche Multi Class Event

Friday night witnessed a successful second PorscheSport ESport all Porsche event, this time at the track that has been recognized as a supreme test of courage and skill, Spa. The 2 Hours of Spa presented by Simracersworld at Silverstone and sponsored by Strasse – provided plenty of twists, turns and thrills in what turned out to a successful race featuring World class professional drivers and sim racers.

Scott Andrews driving for G-Drive Racing Eximia number 94 dominated the race from start to finish despite pressure from there sister car driven by Bram Van Putten and Maarten Van Loozenoord. Leading from pole position, the G-Drive Eximia team once again underlined their talent in the Porsche 911 RSR race car, claiming the top spot in the 2-hour race.

The G-Drive team had plenty of pressure in the early part of the race from equally experienced teams. Unfortunately in the opening laps of the race SimRC was forced into retirement after a 3-car collision heading out of Eau Rouge.

The two G-Drive cars soon put a gap between themselves and third place but still entertained the viewers right to the end with side by side action, but it was Andrews who took the checkered flag with Loozenoord in second place and Matthew Crisp driving for Fiercely Forward taking third place.

“I knew this was going to be tight race and it all depended on the pace of the race I knew that the leading two cars were saving fuel and I was going flat out to catch them, by the second stint I knew I was a lap short on fuel so had to save fuel so I was two or three seconds off the pace. I had a clean run throughout the race” Matthew Crisp, Fiercley Forward.

In 911 Cup Class Josh Martin of Vibe e-Sports had soon put a healthy gap between him and the chasing pack and by the halfway mark, was some twenty seconds in front. Jorden Weeks, Jeroen Kweekel and Josh Camm found themselves in the top split where they dominated proceedings for second and third, though that’s not to say their race was without drama.

With only fifteen minutes to go in the race Jordan Weeks and Jeroen Kweekel while side-by-side, touched, sending Jordan into a spin resulting in heavy damage and putting an end to what had been an outstanding drive. During the incident Josh Camm found himself in second place in the PorscheSport car but unfortunately with only minutes to go was sent into a spin by one of the RSR cars coming through the field, dropping him down into fourth place. After two hours of fantastic close racing Josh Martin of Vibe eSports finished first with an impressive 30 second gap from his nearest competitor. G-Drive Eximia’s presence once again dominated with Jeroen Kweekel taking second and Steve Claeys in the sister car taking third place.

“It was a hard battle and maybe sometimes we were diving on the limit, I was battling with Jorden and I did think to myself this is going to end in tears for one of us and it ended up to be Jorden but it could have been anyone of us” Jeroen Kweekel, G-Drive Eximia.

“It was an intense race, I kept up with the top three very easy and was not pushing too much unfortunately I had a spin that dropped me back some 10 seconds, I managed to close the gap, I managed watch the fuel and the tires and I was really pushing to close the gap. Maybe the podium was handed to me, but I did not really know what happened with the crash in front” Steve Claeys, G-Drive Eximia

The GT4 Class was also entertaining with plenty of side-by-side racing that resulting in the top four changing position more than once but after the thrills and spins and fiercely contented racing it was Maxim Ramsteijn of HM Engineering who crossed the line in first place followed by Ben Sharpe of Fury Simsport in second and Meraki Racings driver Chris Mcretta in third. The drivers had to work hard negotiating moves to overtake while also avoiding any contact with the other faster classes approaching from both sides.

Ian Roots Simracersworld: “We have managed to shake 50 drivers out of their beds, out of their pits, out of their lockdowns and onto the track at Spa, its been a absolutely fantastic event it really has. I just what thank Porschesport & Strasse for the partnership and we’re very much looking forward to Round 3, it’s been a fantastic evening of motorsport"
