A high-profile guest driver will tackle the third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup: The ex-Formula 1 driver Timo Glock is returning to take on the seasoned specialists at the Red Bull Ring. From 28 to 30 June 2024, Glock will contest the international one-make cup at the wheel of the VIP Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Also, the spirited duel between championship leader Larry ten Voorde and his hottest rival Harry King will continue during the next round on the Formula 1 circuit in Styria.

Timo Glock is no stranger to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup – he has driven the VIP-911 three times in the past. Next weekend, the ex-Formula 1 driver and now TV commentator will take on this challenge again: as a guest driver, the 42-year-old German will tackle round three of the season at the Red Bull Ring as part of the Austrian Grand Prix support programme.

In his last guest appearance in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the 2023 season finale in Imola, Italy, Timo Glock impressed with a cunning strategy and clever overtaking manoeuvres. In a turbulent race, he ploughed his way through the pack, gaining 17 places. “I can’t wait to return to the thrilling duels in one of the most exciting racing series in the world,” he says, looking forward to his next outing at the wheel of the 375 kW (510 PS) Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

The upcoming race at the Formula 1 circuit in Styria also promises to deliver a fierce duel between Dutchman Larry ten Voorde and Harry King from the UK, who are going head-to-head for the top spot in the standings. Ten Voorde, who drives for the French team Schumacher CLRT, has won both races in Imola and Monte-Carlo so far this season. “I like the Red Bull Ring, it’s a great and very demanding circuit,” says ten Voorde.

King has finished second twice this year. “I finally want to clinch my first win of the season at the Red Bull Ring,” says the 23-year-old ahead of his team BWT Lechner Racing’s home race.

Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti, who drives alongside ten Voorde for Schumacher CLRT, is hoping for an end to his run of bad luck. The 22-year-old Frenchman currently leads the overall standings in both the Porsche Carrera Cup France and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. However, last season’s rookie champion is still struggling in the Supercup: Due in part to a retirement at the season opener in Imola, Italy, he ranks only tenth overall ahead of the Spielberg race. “I’m very well prepared and confident that things will go better at the Red Bull Ring,” said Ghiretti optimistically.

A total of twelve Supercup rookies are vying to replace Ghiretti as rookie champion at the end of the 2024 season. The frontrunner of this group is Kas Haverkort from Uniserver by Team GP Elite. The 20-year-old Dutchman, who only switched from single-seater racing to the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at the start of the season, currently occupies fifth overall.

“I’m delighted that we were able to convince Timo Glock to make another guest appearance: Even for a Formula 1 driver, it takes a lot of confidence to go up against the best one-make cup specialists in the Supercup. His strong performance at our 2023 season finale showed that Timo hasn’t lost any of his ambition. I’m also curious to see whether the rookies can build on their excellent performances in the last two races,” says Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, looking ahead to the weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

Flagship project in the Supercup: eFuels with partner HIF Global
In 2024, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup runs exclusively on largely fully synthetic fuel for the first time. The raw fuel comes from the Haru Oni pilot plant in Chile, which is operated by HIF Global. This feedstock is produced ready-for-racing through a process known as blending. The final product enables the 911 GT3 Cup cars, which have a power output of around 375 kW (510 PS), to run almost CO2-neutral. A second-generation bio-based, semi-synthetic fuel mixture has already been used in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup for the last three years. Together with HIF Global, Porsche’s top one-make cup is taking the next step.

Red Bull Ring
The Red Bull Ring we know today dates back to the Österreichring, which opened in 1969 near Zeltweg in the municipality of Spielberg. From 1970, the circuit, which was around six kilometres long at the time, was part of the Formula 1 World Championship calendar. The Österreichring was modernised in 1995 and 1996, an update that came with a change of name to the A1 Ring. After a further rebuild and reopening in 2011, the circuit, now known as the Red Bull Ring, is 4.318 kilometres long.

In the 2023 season, Porsche Junior Bastian Buus won after a thrilling duel with Larry ten Voorde. With this success, the Dane laid the foundation to win the title in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
