Victory at the Sachsenring: Larry ten Voorde remains on course for the title
Larry ten Voorde (Team GP Elite) won the 13th race of the season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany on Saturday. With his seventh win of the season, the Dutchman was able to increase his lead in the championship over Porsche Junior Ayhancan Güven (Turkey / Phoenix Racing) to 33 points. “In terms of the overall standings, that was an important success. At the start I couldn't get past Ayhancan Güven, but shortly afterwards there was a gap and I took advantage of it, ”said ten Voorde. Güven finished second in the ADAC GT Masters race. Julian Hanses (Germany / HRT Performance) was delighted with his first podium place in the German one-make cup.
The race on the traditional track in Saxony was characterized by a turbulent initial phase. Pole-setter Güven defended himself against ten Voorde in his 510 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup immediately after the start, but had to hand over the lead to the current Carrera Cup champion shortly afterwards. As several vehicles slipped into the gravel bed in the first corners, the safety car moved onto the track during the recovery. The fully electric Porsche Taycan Turbo S led the field over five laps - after the restart, ten Voorde showed himself to be routine on his 25th birthday and was the first to cross the finish line 1.8 seconds ahead of Güven. “Overtaking is a big challenge on this narrow track. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to put Larry ten Voorde under decisive pressure.
Third place went to Hanses. In his second Carrera Cup season, the 24-year-old made it onto the podium for the first time. “Since my first race, a top three result has been my goal. The decisive factor was that I had a great start and was able to move straight up to third position, ”explained Hanses. Christopher Zöchling (Austria / Fach Auto Tech) and Leon Köhler (Germany / Nebulus Racing by Huber) fought a thrilling duel for fourth position. In the end, the Austrian veteran prevailed. Behind the fifth placed Köhler followed talent pool driver Morris Schuring (Netherlands / Team GP Elite) as the best rookie. Jukka Honkavuori (Finland / MRS GT-Racing) finished seventh. Bastian Buus (Denmark / Allied-Racing) completed the first eight.
The ProAm classification was also exciting: YouTube star Jan-Erik Slooten (Germany) maintained the lead for large parts of the race. In the final minutes, however, Kim Hauschild (Germany / HRT Motorsport) passed the Phoenix Racing driver. Third place went to the current ProAm table leader Carlos Rivas (Black Falcon Team Textar) from Luxembourg.
The 14th championship run of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany starts on Sunday at 3:10 p.m. and will be broadcast live on German free TV on Sport1. Fans can also follow the race on the 3.645-kilometer Sachsenring in the live stream on the YouTube and Facebook channels of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany and in the Porsche Motorsport Hub.
