W&S Motorsport and CMS Wheels team up to compete in the 2023 NLS
W&S Motorsport and wheel manufacturer CMS expand their partnership in the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) and present the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS in the distinctive colours of CMS Wheels. The drivers will also be equipped with racing suits in the unique CMS design. The CMS Porsche Cayman GT4 will compete in the Cup3 class of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN) in the battle for the coveted one-make trophy. The cockpit of the racing car will be shared by Niclas Wiedmann and the Finn Philip Miemois. The third driver will be announced in due course.
CMS Automotive Trading GmbH already supported W&S Motorsport in the past years and was most recently present in the NLS on the production-based Porsche Cayman 2.7l. For the upcoming season of the Nürburgring Endurance Series, the cooperation will be extended with the common goal to achieve further successes in the NLS.
CMS has stood for the manufacturing of high-quality alloy wheels for more than 40 years. With over 10 million wheels produced per year and original supplier status for the top automotive brands, the company is one of Europe's leading alloy wheel manufacturers. 4000 employees in four production facilities take care of development, production and sales. CMS alloy wheels have been distributed throughout Europe from Germany since 1997.
"The Porsche Cayman GT4 in CMS design is a real eye-catcher and we are happy to have CMS on our side as a sponsor for our effort in Cup3. Next to the tires, the wheels are the most important connection between car and asphalt. Here motorsport and the products of CMS go hand in hand and reflect beautiful design, best material and high quality manufacturing. If you want to have a look at the stylish wheels from CMS at the Nürburgring, you are welcome to stop by the team tent and have fuel talks with our drivers. The driver crew promises exciting and successful races. We are sure that the whole package fits and we are ready for the season start in the middle of March!" explains W&S Motorsport Team Principal Daniel Schellhaas.
Andreas Göbel, Managing Director CMS Automotive Trading GmbH: "After the first successful season together in the NLS in 2022, we are happy to be able to expand our cooperation with W&S Motorsport and are excited about the new design of the Cayman GT4. The Nordschleife has fascinated people for almost a century and the endurance races in the Green Hell are probably the biggest challenge for man and material. We wish the team and the drivers a successful season!"
The drivers of the CMS Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS
Niclas Wiedmann and Philip Miemois will drive the first ever CMS Porsche Cayman GT4. Niclas Wiedmann from Horgenzell already took the wheel of the production-based Porsche Cayman 2.7l from W&S Motorsport in the previous NLS season and celebrated second place in the championship in the V5 class after podium finishes and a victory. The 22-year-old started karting in 2012 and got into the race car for the first time in 2020 with the team from Ofterdingen. After recording his first podiums with the racing team in the RCN Rundstrecken-Challenge Nürburgring, he has been competing with W&S Motorsport in the NLS events since 2022. In 2023, the automotive businessman will take the next step into the GT4 class.
Philip Miemois finished fourth in Cup3 in the 2022 Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring and thus brings plenty of one-make cup experience to the driver trio. Miemois won the "Legends Trophy Finland" in his home country in 2019 and is successfully active in simracing.
The third driver of the CMS Porsche Cayman GT4 will be announced shortly.
The starting lights for the first round of the NLS will switch to green on Saturday, March 18, to unleash the race over four hours. In total, participants can expect six races over four hours and three races over six hours distance. Only Porsche Cayman GT4s will be competing in PETN's Cup3, and the class once again promises a full field and hot competition in the Green Hell.
Niclas Wiedmann, Driver W&S Motorsport: "I am very motivated and extremely looking forward to the new season with the team! The goal is to finish in the top 5 in every race if possible and thus always score a lot of points. Together with the team, I was able to spend a few hours in the simulator preparing for the Porsche Cayman GT4, learning the driving characteristics and continuously improving my lap times. I can tell that the entire team is super motivated for the new season. This is also quickly transferred to us drivers and makes the anticipation rise once again. I will do the best possible to fight for top results for the team."
Philip Miemois, Driver W&S Motorsport: "Last year was my first full season in NLS and a successful season in Cup3 class motivates me to further improve my own performance as a racing driver. I am very happy to be joining W&S Motorsport - a team with such an impressive track record and strong focus on performance development. I am really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the CMS Cayman GT4!"
