WeatherTech Racing Finishes Third at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Matt Campbell (Australia) finished third in today’s running of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

MacNeil took the start in the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche RSR for the two-hour-and-forty-minute race. Just two minutes after the green flag the races first and only full course caution slowed the action. MacNeil was able to get a great restart keeping within pace of the two Corvettes. He turned the car over to Campbell in a strong position. Campbell put in fast laps with the Proton Competition team performing in the pits, but it wasn’t enough to get by the Corvette cars today.

“We were strategizing for a late race caution that never came," MacNeil said. "It was a good race by the Corvette guys, their cars were super strong. Matt drove a good final stint. It was a decent points day for us. We will regroup and see what we can improve on the car for Long Beach which is a street course. We will keep chipping away at it for the next one and see what happens.”

“We were P3 in the end, so not too unhappy,” Campbell said. “We would have liked to have been in a position to fight with the Corvette cars a little bit more, but it wasn’t in the cards today. We can try to do that at Long Beach with Mathieu (Jaminet) in the WeatherTech Porsche. We couldn’t get a yellow at the right time to help us get in a position to fight later in the race.”

Next up for MacNeil is the European Le Mans Series race at Spa-Francorchamps next weekend, Sept. 17-19. The IMSA WeatherTech Championship will travel south to Long Beach for the second street race of the year to run, Sept. 24-25.
