The No. 120 Wright Motorsports team showcased flawless execution in Race 2 of the Fanatec GT World Challenge, demonstrating dominance from start to finish with their Porsche 992 GT3 R. As the race kicked off, Elliott Skeer swiftly surged ahead from pole position, immediately establishing a commanding lead over the rest of the competition.

Meanwhile, Zach Veach experienced some initial setbacks with the No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 EVO22 but was committed to making its way back through the field before handing over his machine to teammate Luca Mars. Around the halfway mark, Varun Choksey seamlessly took over the wheel of the No. 28 ST Racing BMW M4 GT3 from Bill Auberlen, who had completed a strong first half of the race, setting the stage for an intense battle in the closing stages of the race.

As Adam Adelson took over from Skeer, he masterfully maneuvered around Sonoma Raceway, further extending the lead the Wright Motorsports team had accumulated as the time on the clock ticked away. They completed a clean sweep of the weekend, securing back to back Pro Class and Overall wins.

The fight for the remaining positions intensified as Choksey engaged in a thrilling duel with Mars, ultimately securing second place, with Luca Mars settling for third as the two raced to the line.

“It's a dream come true,” exclaimed Adam Adelson. “To think I'd be racing in the Pro Class in my second year of GT3 competition is amazing. I didn't think I would even be here, and to be able to sweep the weekend on our first go around, that's just incredible. I want to say a huge thanks to the whole Wright Motorsports family. Porsche gave us an amazing car which is absolutely mega to drive around this track. Elliott made my job today easy, so huge thanks to this guy too.”

Echoing his teammate, Elliott Skeer added; “It's incredible, right? It's not just the competitiveness out there, but to have the team we have, the co-driver I have, this car, this track, and then to go out there and to compete and to do well like this, these are the days we live for. To do it with Wright Motorsports in a Porsche with Adam is just a perfect weekend. We're just keeping the momentum going and just enjoying every day and executing as we do.”

Pro-Am Class

In the Pro-Am class, the No. 04 CrowdStrike by Riley Mercedes-AMG GT3 was the car to catch. Colin Braun was the first one behind the wheel, and immediately found himself immersed in a chase with Neil Verhagen in the No. 38 ST Racing BMW M4 GT3.

As the race progressed, strategic pit stops came into play. As he was on an alternate strategy, Jeff Burton made a swift transition, handing over the reins to Pro driver Philip Ellis, who wasted no time in returning to the track in the No. 91 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with under 50 minutes remaining.

Further pit stop action ensued, with Bryan Sellers handing over the reins of his No. 08 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 to Scott Smithson to complete the second half of the race. Samantha Tan also displayed impressive skill as she took over from Neil Verhagen, and soon began chasing down Smithson for second place in class.

The stakes were raised as the CrowdStrike by Riley team were handed a 5 second post-race time penalty for a pit stop infringement, with leader George Kurtz tasked with the added responsibility of establishing a sufficient gap between himself and the competitors behind.

Samantha Tan put up a valiant fight, overtaking Smithson for second place in her mission to reel in Kurtz. However, the driver of the No. 04 rose to the occasion, further extending the gap and ultimately securing victory in the Pro-Am class. ST Racing claimed a well-deserved second place finish, with DXDT Racing finishing third.

Philip Ellis emerged as a standout performer, earning the CrowdStrike Fastest Lap and Super Fuel Hard Charger Awards, moving up six places.

“The crew just said ‘hey, we got a penalty’ and I hammered down,” explained George Kurtz. “I just really wanted to focus and click off the laps. I had a little bit left in the tank and gave it everything. I had qualifying laps at the end, and we built a gap, but I knew I had to win by more than five seconds. The CrowdStrike by Riley guys gave us a great car and it was really good at the end of the race so I was able to run some of my fastest laps.”

“It was definitely an intense battle,” added Colin Braun. “It was a great result. I’m super proud of George, what a drive there at the end, those were some really impressive laps. Big hats off to SRO and Sonoma. They did a great job with a kind of crazy weekend, but in the end we had some great racing. I am really proud of this CrowdStrike by Riley team. This is definitely a win that G.K. earned. He did a great job, that was like qualifying pace for him at the end. It was super impressive, what a fantastic drive.”
