Dorian Boccolacci to take on GT World Challenge Australia campaign with EMA Motorsport
Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Dorian Boccolacci will compete for EMA Motorsport during this year’s GT World Challenge Australia season, alongside former Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Pro-Am champion Shane Smollen.
Boccolacci finished second in his first race of the year at the Sepang 12 Hours last weekend and now shifts his attention to the Australian series, which will play a key part in his 2025 programme.
His teammate, Smollen, is a highly accomplished racer, with over 100 starts in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, including outright wins and a Pro-Am title. More recently, the Gold Coast-based driver was crowned 2023 GT4 Australia champion and scored Bathurst 6 Hour victory in 2021.
The venture sees Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific embarking on a new chapter, supporting GT3 customers in Australia, starting with the successful EMA squad.
With the backing of the marque, Manthey-EMA recorded a Pro-Am podium at the iconic Bathurst 12 Hour last month. In 2024, the squad took 24 Hours of Le Mans LMGT3 victory, along with a podium at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.
More recently, EMA Motorsport also ran Porsche Junior and Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2024 champion Alessandro Ghiretti at the Melbourne leg of Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, securing victory in the final race of the weekend at Albert Park.
GT World Challenge Australia visits some of the best tracks in Australia, as well as a trip to New Zealand, across six action-packed events, getting underway on 4-6 April at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria.
Dorian Boccolacci, EMA Motorsport: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to race in such a competitive series and it’ll be the first time I’ve competed in Australia! I’m grateful to Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific and EMA Motorsport for giving me the chance to show my ability in the championship. I’m raring to go and pleased to be working with Shane and I believe we have what it takes to enjoy a successful campaign together.”
Shane Smollen, EMA Motorsport: “I’m thrilled to take the next big step in my racing career with Porsche and EMA Motorsport. It feels like everything in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia and GT4 has been a stage rehearsal for this opportunity. I’m really looking forward to learning from such an experienced international team, and a co-driver of Dorian’s class.”
Marcus Cole, Team Manager EMA Motorsport: “It’s great to be back on the GT World Challenge Australia grid in 2025 with the Porsche 911 GT3 R, and also running with an exciting partnership with PMAP. It’s brilliant to have Shane stepping up to GT3 after some impressive performances in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia and obviously GT4. We are also excited to welcome Dorian to the team. He is definitely proving to be a rising star in the Porsche family, so it will be really great to watch him as he makes his Australian debut, and combine with Shane to hopefully score some strong results in 2025.”
Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “We’re delighted to see Dorian compete in GT World Challenge Australia as part of his programme as the 2025 Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver. We are also really looking forward to embarking on this new chapter, supporting GT3 customers in Australia, and we’re very happy to do so with such an esteemed team in EMA. We’re confident Dorian will form a great partnership with Shane, who has a fantastic racing CV of his own, with victories in multiple championships, including Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, where he became Pro-Am Champion, Australian GT Challenge, GT4 Australia and the Bathurst 6 Hour. The series takes on some amazing tracks in both Australia and New Zealand, and we’re very excited for Shane, Dorian and EMA to kick the campaign off at Phillip Island next month.”
