Good speed from Proton Huber Competition in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Imola
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup kicked off its 2024 season in Imola - Alexander Tauscher showed good speed for Proton Huber Competition and was among the front runners over the race weekend.
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup kicked off its new season in Imola as part of the Formula 1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. For Proton Huber Competition, this was the third trip to the traditional circuit in Italy, as the official test day of the German Carrera Cup and the season opener of the national championship had already taken place there. Sebastian Freymuth, Roar Lindland and Alexander Tauscher drove the cars of the team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria in front of a huge crowd of spectators in Italy.
Supercup debutant Alexander Tauscher impressed at the race weekend at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. The driver from Lower Bavaria finished fourth in practice on Friday. Tauscher was also able to build on this in qualifying on Saturday afternoon and put the #4 Porsche in fifth place on the grid. Freymuth and Lindland followed at the bottom half of the starting grid.
In the race, Tauscher was initially able to stay in the extended leading group after the start. But after a safety car restart, the 21-year-old skidded into the gravel after a hit and fell a long way back before having to park his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup after sustaining consequential damage. A big disappointment for Tauscher and the entire team after an extremely strong performance against the world's elite in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
Sebastian Freymuth moved up to 14th position in the race with a faultless performance and was thus able to add two points to his account. The Berlin is contesting his first full season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup this year, having already completed three races in 2022. Roar Lindland finished the race in 24th position after a solid performance.
"Overall, we are very happy with this weekend and the team's performance. I think Alexander showed how fast he can be and put in a great performance this weekend," said Michael Dirsch, who heads the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup programme at Proton Huber Competition. "Unfortunately, he took a hit immediately after the safety car restart, which ultimately forced us to park the car. On the other hand, we are very happy for Sebastian, who was able to finish in the points in his first Supercup season as a rookie. Roar had a very solid weekend and, despite little preparation, drove faultlessly throughout the weekend."
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup continues next week. The season highlight of the international one-make series will take place in the streets of Monaco! "The whole team is really looking forward to Monaco and it will be an exciting challenge with our two rookies," says Dirsch, full of anticipation for the event right by the Marina of the Principality.
