Huber Racing establishes itself in the top field of the ADAC GT Masters
Just one week after the event at the Norisring, the ADAC GT Masters continued at the Nürburgring. As part of the ADAC Truck Grand Prix, the racing series made a appearance at another legendary event, to which more than 130,000 spectators made the pilgrimage in the Eifel. Huber Racing fielded a Porsche 911 GT3 R for Tim Zimmermann and Jaxon Evans.
On a drying track on Saturday morning, Tim Zimmermann took the first pole position for the Bavarian Porsche team in the "League of Super Sports Cars". After a rain shower shortly before the start of the race, the race took place in difficult track conditions. In the one-hour race, the team was not able to convert pole position into a victory, but in fifth position they scored important points in a hard-fought race.
On Sunday, Evans started the race from fifth position in the #92 car. As on the previous day, a race developed at the Nürburgring with many fierce two and more fights in which the Huber Racing Porsche was entangled. In the end, Zimmermann saw the chequered flag in fourth position and missed a podium result by less than 0.7 seconds.
This leaves Tim Zimmermann and Jaxon Evans in third championship position in the ADAC GT Masters after six of twelve rounds of the season. The two drivers are only seven points behind the top of the standings and thus go into the summer break as championship contenders. The GT3 race series continues at the Sachsenring from 8 to 10 September.
"I'm very happy about our first pole position in the ADAC GT Masters!" said team boss Christoph Huber. "Even though we weren't able to convert the grid position into a win, it was a successful race weekend for us at the Nürburgring. We further established ourselves in the leading field and were able to collect important points. I don't even want to think about the title fight yet in our first season in GT3 racing, but we return from the summer break in a very promising position."
At the same time, the racing team from Hofkirchen competed in the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse in Monza, Italy. The twins Johannes Kapfinger and Michael Kapfinger each drove a 911 GT3 Cup there. Johannes Kapfinger, who won the GT Winter Series title in March, has been an official Porsche Switzerland support driver since this season. Carrera Cup Benelux race winner Ariel Levi and Merabi Mekvabishvili also competed for the team on the high-speed circuit.
In the second race of the GT3 Cup cars, Huber Racing celebrated a double victory on the circuit near Milan. Israeli Levi prevailed over Johannes Kapfinger by just 0.685 seconds. In Open GT, Michael Kapfinger won the first race, defeating nominally stronger GT3 cars. In the second service he narrowly missed a repeat of that triumph. In the two-hour Endurance race, the Kapfinger twins drove to second position in their class.
