King of Sundays, Neugebauer wins at Interlagos and takes the lead in the Carrera Cup
Porsche Cup C6 Bank Sundays have a king in 2024 and he goes by the name of Werner Neugebauer. In front of more than 20,000 people at the main racetrack in Brazil, the competitor of the #8 car again won race 2 of the Carrera Cup, as he had already done in Goiânia and Velocitta. Multi-champion Miguel Paludo finished second, with pole-sitter Thiago Vivacqua and winner of the day before in third.
Lineu Pires won in Sport with fourth place overall and Marcos Regadas completed the podium, repeating the victory of the day before in Rookie.
The Sprint championship completed its first half with three Gauchos in the top three positions. Neugebauer is the new leader with 131 points, followed by Muller (126) and Paludo (125) This score disregards the two discards provided for in the regulations, which are applied after the final stage of the sprint championship.
In the Challenge class, after 50% of the sprint season has been completed, the championship is announced in a direct clash between the current champion Antonella Bassani and Miguel Mariotti. Only the two have won in 2024, with Antonella shining this Sunday.
She took the lead at the start and sustained every lap to win for the first time at Interlagos and fifth of the season. In addition, the 18-year-old driver from Santa Catarina was favored by the abandonment of the direct competitor on lap 11 of the 14 of the race, taking important points from Mariotti's margin at the top of the leaderboard.
Earlier, the Trophy held its race with the victory of Gabriel Liber, second place of Jose Moura Neto after an important recovery by starting eighth and the first podium of Leticia Bufoni, in fourth behind pole Silvio Morestoni.
The Porsche Cup C6 Bank resumes its season in June, when it competes in races on consecutive weekends in Estoril. The trip to Portugal will be the first international of the twentieth season of the most produced competition cars on the planet. In September, there is another international stage, in Argentina.
Carrera Cup
Werner Neugebauer soon attacked pole-sitter Lineu Pires and took the lead before Senna's S. Marçal Muller tried to keep up, but arrived too fast under braking and Miguel Paludo moved up to second place. The #544 and #7 then made a half-turn side by side, disputing every inch of asphalt at Interlagos in a clean dispute.
Werner closed the first lap in the lead, followed by Paludo, Muller, Christian Hahn and Thiago Vivacqua. In sixth, Peter Ferter was leading in Sport, with Marcos Regadas, in tenth, leading in Rookie.
On lap 3, Paludo had shaken off Marçal's pressure and was looking to attack Werner. And Hahn got very close to the #544.
On lap 8, Paludo dived on the inside of Senna's S and overtook him. But Werner was deft in defending his line, applying an "X" with style. Muller saw the breach and tried to attack Paludo in the Lake. Immediately behind, Alceu Feldmann, who had passed Vivacqua, was rehearsing an attack on Hahn.
The top five opened lap 9 separated by 1.133s and, on the next lap, the safety car was deployed, interrupting what was presented as the best dispute of the season.
The restart came on lap 12, with Paludo embedded in Werner. Marçal attacked the #7 at Laranjinha on the outside, in a daring maneuver. The #544 made a real drift to control the car, allowing Paludo to change. Then Feldmann attacked Hahn in the Duckbill, hitting Muller as collateral damage. Muller dropped to 14th, Hahn was one position behind and Feldmann retired to the pits.
The safety car was again activated due to an incident in Senna's S, among other competitors, and stayed until the checkered flag.
Thus Werner won his third Race 2 of the year. Paludo was second with Vivacqua in third. Lineu Pires, won in Sport with fourth place overall. And Marcos Regadas completed the podium in fifth, triumphing again in the Rookie.
Porsche Challenge
The peloton was in disarray and the first attempt was not started. On the next lap, Antonella Bassani jumped from third place for a decisive dive on the inside and passed both Celio Brasil and pole-sitter Matheus Roque. Miguel Mariotti also got off to a strong start, jumping from sixth to third.
At the end of the first lap, the champion was leading, followed by Brazil, Mariotti, Roque and Leonardo Herrmann.
On lap 3, the safety car was activated to remove a car stopped in the run-off area of the Sol corner. On the next lap came the restart. The top five held their positions. In seventh, Gerson Campos was touched by Caio Castro on the brakes of Senna's S. Gerson managed to come back in last. Caio had to abandon.
Antonella soon tried to open more than 1s of advantage over Brazil, who was leading in Sport under extreme pressure from Mariotti. Roque followed in fourth with Herrmann in fifth and, in ninth, Caio Chaves was in the lead of the Rookie.
On lap 11, Mariotti tried to attack Brazil on the outside at the Lake and the cars slid. The #21 ended up stuck in the gravel pit and the safety car was deployed again.
Under a yellow flag, Sadak Leite lost control of the #66 car and stopped Roque. The peloton passed and the two then regained their positions in the starting row.
Matheus started third, but Sadak then stayed at the back of the pack before the green flag.
Antonella restarted with authority, followed by Celio Brasil, Roque, Herrmann and Sebá Malucelli. And they took the chequered flag in that order on the next lap. Gerson Campos recovered with authority, to be sixth after dropping to 16th on the touch of Caio Castro. Caio Chaves finished ninth, winning again in the Rookie division.
Quotes
"I didn't have the pace, Miguel (Paludo) was much faster than me. I think the most important thing was to have a head. I had to hold him back a lot. I don't know what happened, the car yesterday was much better. I don't know if we had any problems with the tyres, but from the beginning, from the second lap, I saw that I didn't have the pace. I couldn't brake like they did, I didn't have the same speed around the corners. I had to find a way. It was a tough race." Werner Neugebauer
"My first win at Interlagos was special! Every rider dreams of winning a race here and it made me very excited to achieve this. The practice sessions didn't go as we expected, we qualified in 11th position yesterday, but I knew that the race pace was very good and we were able to prove it. Yesterday we started from P11 and finished in P4, today from P3 to P1 on the first lap. I saw that Mariotti retired and that will balance the championship, because I also had a retirement at Velocitta and now we are more alive than ever in the title race." Antonella Bassani
"It was a very good battle with Werner (Neugebauer) and Marçal (Müller). It couldn't get any cleaner than that, with everyone respecting each other side by side. I spent half a lap next to Marçal, then another half turn there again. And in the end with Werner as well. Congratulations to him for the performance. I was faster, but unfortunately I couldn't position myself to overtake. At the same time, I was also thinking about the points. We were coming from not so good results and nothing better than being competitive again, fighting for victories. Now it's time to think about the championship and move on to the next one after the Endurance in Portugal." Miguel Paludo
"It was a race defined as a newsroom, with a beginning, middle and end. All completely different. I was quite aggressive at the beginning to position myself, because I knew I had a good car. It was essential to position yourself well. The middle has already been paced, with everyone becoming the same. And in the end, I knew that everyone was going to be together, so something could happen, that's why my idea was, no. Showing a lot of resistance to Alceu (Feldmann), because I knew that everyone was going to stay together until the last lap. And I could take advantage of that. That's what happened. I came in third. I scored well over the weekend. I'm very happy. To get on the podium in both races is gratifying at this historic circuit." Thiago Vivacqua
"It was a perfect weekend. I took pole position in Sport, I won yesterday and today. The start wasn't very good, but in the races we have to be lucky. We were lucky, they got tangled up and it was left for me. It's great, it's a merit." Lineu Pires
"We had been having a clean fight with Miguel (Paludo), well disputed, but unfortunately there are drivers who think they are alone on the track. They weren't fighting for the championship and they make those who are fighting throw the points away. That is unacceptable. I've lost a championship in the past because of a touch like that from the same rider. It's very unfortunate what happened here today." Marçal Müller
"We were able to take Rookie last year and now I try to repeat it in Sport, without putting pressure, one step at a time and consistent evolution. This year I won in the first stage, in the second it didn't go as I expected. And now I've managed to win again at Interlagos, which is a track I really like." Celio Brazil
"I was able to keep the lead today. It was a race of a lot of learning. I ended up taking a hit at first, dropped to fourth in my category. And I always did what my coach said: keep a level head, be patient and keep the pace to go after them one by one. I was able to do that yesterday and again today. In other words, these two races at Interlagos served as a learning experience." Caio Chaves
"It's a wonderful feeling to win at Interlagos! I managed to bring the car to the chequered flag, I had a gearbox problem and I had to battle with the car and the clutch to win here. I had to worry a lot about Silvo, after I passed him I started to have the problems with the gears, so it was one eye in the mirror and one eye on the track to take the win." Gabriel Liber
"I thank everyone who has been with me so far and taught me everything I know. It's been a little over a year that I've been riding a race car and I didn't imagine that I would win in my first race at Interlagos, I'm very excited about this victory." Fernando Arruda
"I was very tense this morning, I started in a very good position, but the cars behind me were quite fast, so I knew I couldn't make any mistakes throughout the race. At the beginning I lost the third position, but he was faster than me and the rest of the race was a lot of focus to keep me well and not happen the same as what happened at the Velocitta of having spun at the very end, so that was very much in my head and I managed to finish fourth.
When I saw the flag indicating on the last lap, there was a car getting very close and that made me very tense, but I was focused and I managed to bring the car to the flag.
Very happy with the result, on Friday I was finding it almost impossible to improve my lap time at Interlagos and yesterday I got a very good qualifying, so it was a very special day and I can say that Interlagos is my favourite track so far." Leticia Bufoni
