Lionspeed GP confirms full 24h series European program with Porsche Cayman
Lionspeed GP is among the first teams to confirm a full season entry for the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook European season in 2024.
As part of a “landmark season” for the Nürburg-based outfit, Lionspeed GP, founded in 2019 and heralded by Patrick Kolb and José Garcia, is set to embark on its first full racing campaign as an independent operation, doing so in both the 24H SERIES and at the Nürburgring. In its previous entries with CREVENTIC, Lionspeed GP has competed in collaboration with Car Collection, 2020 Overall GT Teams’ ‘Continents’ SRS Team Sorg Rennsport, and Herberth Motorsport.
Lionspeed GP’s first race as an independent entity will be the Hankook 12H MUGELLO on 22-23-24 March, for which the German team has confirmed it will run its new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. Kolb, who continues his role as team principal, and Garcia, who started their 24H SERIES season strongly with a TCX podium at this past month’s Hankook 24H DUBAI, have been confirmed on driver detail alongside Daniel Miller.
Fittingly, the trio also ran a Cayman GT4 RS together at last year’s Hankook 12H SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS and the Hankook 12H KUWAIT in 2022.
“We are super excited to be able to join the entire [24H SERIES] European Championship,” Garcia explained in an official team statement. “We’ve always enjoyed racing in this championship, and we think it is a well-organized competition. It is important that we show our commitment by being a full-season entry.
“We look forward to mixing it up with all the teams out there and Lionspeed is very excited to put the entire team to work for the European championship.”
“While Lionspeed GP is entering its sixth season of racing, our extensive team is composed of professionals with decades of experience in the racing world” Kolb continues. “The dedication and efforts of everyone involved in this exciting project has enabled us to grow and led to many achievements and triumphs.
“In 2024 we are taking the next step and are excited to expand the team’s efforts in technical and operational realms for European and international competitions.”
Garcia and Kolb made their respective debuts in the 24H SERIES at the Hankook 24H SEBRING in 2021 with an Audi R8 LMS GT4. Among Lionspeed GP’s most notable events to-date however is the 2022 Hankook 12H SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS at which three-time European Rallycross champion Andreas Bakkerud made his endurance racing debut with the team. Bakkerud would also compete with Lionspeed later that year in Portimão – at which Miller made his 24H SERIES debut – and Kuwait.
Garcia, Kolb and Miller are expected to compete at all five of CREVENTIC’s European events this season up to and including the Hankook 24H BARCELONA European season finale on 13-14-15 September.
