Porsche Cup Brazil repeats full grids in Velocitta in its season round 2
Once more Porsche Cup Brazil drew over 60 drivers to track in its Sprint Championship. Round 2 was held in Velocitta racetrack, with a field of 29 cars in Carrera Cup, 21 in Challenge and 14 in Trophy division.
As the cars were given ballast do to the balance of performance rule, championship top seeders had additional challenge in the tight Sao Paulo state track circuit.
Both Carrera and Challenge pole-sitters were outsiders in round 1. The 992 division top qualifying driver was sports division regular Raijan Mascarello. He started P1 and converted pole into win, holding back a fierce charge from points leader Marcal Muller during the whole race. Multiple champ Miguel Paludo was P3 in the weekend opening race.
In the 991.2 cars series, pole position went do Leonardo Herrmann, who had previously raced the Trophy division event in round 1. He struggled in start taking Caio Castros’ gap. The actor drove from outside lane, but was forced to the grass. Series champ Antonella Bassani benefitted from the move, climbing from fifth to the lead as the track was opened to her inside lane. Points leader Miguel Mariotti kept second place and finished in the same spot, as TV Show Acelerados host Gerson Campos had a strong run, from P6 on the grid to third spot on the checkered flag.
Sunday event had its opening race with Trophy division 20 minutes dash. Silvio Morestoni started from pole and drove to checkered in a dominating way. Jose Moura Neto came right behind him, with Lucas Lucco being promoted to P3 after a 20s time penalty imposed to Gabriel Liber for jumping start getting the checkered flag in P3.
Both Carrera Cup and Challenge grid inverted race 2s had eight spots move after Saturday winners drew the respective number on the podium ceremony.
Once more race start proved to be determinant to the competition outcome on Velocitta tight corners. Both Carrera Cup and Challenge race winners Werner Neugebauer and Miguel Mariotti managed to take turn 1 ahead of their adversaries and led all the way through.
Marcal Muller climbed up from P7 to finish P2 and kept the top of the points table lead as a result. His worse result in four races is a runner-up position.
So is Mariotti’s 2024 campaign after four races.
Next round is scheduled to Interlagos in three weeks.
