Michael Steiner, Member of the Board of Directors for Research and Development at Dr. Ing.hc F. Porsche AG, comments: “One-make cups with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup have formed the basis for our customer racing for decades. In the current season there are a total of 29 at national level. In addition, there is the internationally oriented Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. It is considered to be one of the toughest racing series in the world. The driver counts above all here. The Supercup has therefore also proven itself to be an excellent training platform for the successful Porsche Junior Program. Many Porsche works drivers, endurance world champions and Le Mans winners have already emerged from it. With the 300th race, the Supercup also underscores its position as one of the longest-lasting one-make cups in the world. "

The first race of the one-make cup, then known as the Porsche Supercup, thrilled Formula 1 fans on April 25, 1993 as part of the San Marino Grand Prix. The German Uwe Alzen crossed the finish line in Imola as the winner. Since then, the Cup nine-eleven has made guest appearances on a total of 22 different tracks in 16 countries, covering around 1.4 million kilometers at racing speed. The record champion is the Dutchman Patrick Huisman, who won the Supercup title four times in a row in 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000.

The Grand Prix course in Spa-Francorchamps is one of the most popular stages of the Supercup. The different generations of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup have already competed there 28 times. In the meanwhile 28-year history of the Supercup, the respectfully called “Ardennes rollercoaster” has played a special role several times. In 2001 a total of 50 Cup nine-eleven competed against each other when the Porsche Supercup and the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany hosted a joint race. Back then, the Frenchman Stéphane Ortelli won ahead of the German Marc Lieb, later a Porsche works driver and now team leader for sports communication at Porsche.

In 2015 Hollywood star Patrick Dempsey ("Grey's Anatomy") made a guest appearance in Spa-Francorchamps. The American was one of over 200 drivers of the various VIP nine-eleven drivers, in which celebrities from show business as well as world champions from Formula 1, rallying and motorcycle racing sniffed the Supercup air. In 2016, a young Dutchman in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup attracted attention for the first time on the traditional Belgian race track, who will compete as the reigning champion and current championship leader next weekend: Larry ten Voorde.

We can also be proud that the best teams from the national Porsche Carrera Cups are at the start in the Supercup. In the current season, this mix ensures a high level of professionalism and exciting races, but at the same time also creates an incomparably friendly atmosphere in the paddock, ”emphasizes Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup relies on Esso Renewable Racing Fuel
When introducing renewable fuels in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Porsche and ExxonMobil are pursuing a two-stage strategy. In the current season, the racing cars are starting with a bio-based fuel mixture. The proportion of advanced biofuel is obtained from food waste products. Additional fuel components are added in order to achieve the required properties in terms of knock resistance and combustion behavior in the final fuel. The second step is to follow in the course of 2022 with the introduction of a synthetically produced fuel (eFuel). With this Esso Renewable Racing Fuel, it is possible to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 85 percent if it complies with the current fuel standard according to the necessary blending (1).
