Proton Huber Competition makes progress in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Red Bull Ring

At the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Red Bull Ring, the young drivers from Proton Huber Competition were able to learn a lot - but collisions prevented good results.

The extended home race in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup lies behind Proton Huber Competition. The racing team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria completes many test days on the Austrian Formula 1 circuit and Team Principal Christoph Huber was also born in Austria. Accordingly, the team had many guests visiting them on the last race weekend. In addition to the two regular drivers Sebastian Freymuth and Alexander Tauscher, Horst Felix Felbermayr competed with the team in the international one-make series for the second time at his home race.

"The track only changed a few days before this weekend, so our guys had to get used to the adapted final sector first. After free practice, we had a good feeling that we were working in the right direction with the car. In qualifying on Saturday, the boys robbed themselves of a top 10 position, but they were determined to get it back on Sunday," said Supercup project manager Michael Dirsch. Freymuth and Tauscher had to start the race in the pre-programme for the Formula 1 race from positions 12 and 13 - the young Austrian driver Felbermayr started from 20th place.

The race was chaotic and full of contact on the high-speed circuit in Styria. Sebastian Freymuth and Alexander Tauscher were also involved in these and had to park their cars in the pits early, ruining their chances of scoring points. Horst Felix Felbermayr was also involved in a collision and had to deal with a radiator leak from the third lap onwards. At the end of the race, he finished in 21st position.

"This race was very wild. Even the race director told me personally that it was one of the most chaotic in recent years. Unfortunately, we lost Alexander and Sebastian early in the race after a strong start. Horst Felix fought to bring his damaged car home, which was no easy task for him. All in all, we have learnt something new again and are satisfied with the development of the car," said Dirsch, summarising the difficult race.

The Proton Huber Competition team will now head straight to Spa-Francorchamps without a break. The team will complete a two-day test day on the legendary Ardennes eight-track to prepare for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race weekend at the end of July. Immediately afterwards, the team will head to Silverstone, where the international one-make series will be held on the next race weekend.
