Ramsteijn claims victory at Interlagos

Victory for Maxim Ramsteijn at round four of the 2020 PorscheSport Carrera Cup: The sim racer took the chequered flag in a close fought battle in the Feature Race at Interlagos circuit.

Four action-packed races on the iRacing online simulation platform saw several changes in the series points table. It was close between champion rivals Maxim Ramsteijn (HM Engineering) and Alexander Theibe (Team Redline) who finished the featured race in third place at the wheel of his virtual Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, sitting behind Ramsteijn (424) on 402 points.

Dylan Birse took his first victory of the season as Ramstiejn battled with the frontrunners in Heat One. The PorscheSport Duo of Ryan Parkins and Gavin Halls also looked to have improved for this round and were set for high finishes before both were involved in separate but almost identical incidents, as they were collected from opponents behind. With the top ten set to qualify for the Feature Race, the racing was fierce for the final spots. An impressive Nelson Costa De Sousa for Optimal Simracing gained 6 positions and a ninth place finish, good enough to qualify him for the Feature Race. Sam Kuitert for team WoIP.com Volante Racing ensured the team gained valuable championship points with a third place finish in Heat one.

Heat Two saw Alexander Thiebe on the front row followed by Justin Tipton for RaceKraft Esports and Kieran Harrison for HM Engineering. All three kept their positions after some fantastic racing, ensuring their spot into the feature race. Hendryk Lichtenhagen for Panda Racing Team, who started in nineteenth, gained an impressive ten positions and moved himself into the all important top ten, followed closely by Jose Manuel Padin in the final qualification spot.

For those who narrowly missed out claiming a spot in the Feature Race, there was still hope as the top ten in the consultation race also gained qualification. With the Interlagos track slowly starting to lose sunlight, a few notable drivers were highlighted to watch including Fiercely Forwards, Josh Clogg and PorscheSport Driver Gavin Halls, who could easily have qualified via the Heats if not for incidents. With the all important top ten spots up for grabs, notable drives from Kirill Kolobuxov gaining nine places and Tristan Martz gaining eight, ensured their space on the grid for the Feature. Artem Grabow claimed victory in the Consultation race with over 10 seconds to his nearest rivals.

As 30 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars took the grid, the Interlagos circuit was in total darkness for the Feature race. The experienced field would need all their skills to ensure they collected maximum points for the final race. It was Dylan Birse who led off the line, followed closely by championship contenders Maxim Ramsteijn and Alexander Theibe. After the previous results, you could have suggested this may be a two horse race between Theibe and Ramsteijn, but after a valiant effort, Birse took second place. It was Maxim Ramsteijn who capitalised this week with Theibe only managing the final spot on the podium, a close battle with only one second splitting the top three. PorscheSport driver, Gavin Halls, made fifteen positions starting from the back of the grid to finally take thirteenth, just behind the sister car of Ryan Parkins in eleventh.
