The Racers Group returns to historic Road America
One of The Racers Group (TRG) favourite race locations. At 4.048 miles in length, with 14 turns, the track is virtually the same today as it was when it was first laid out in 1955. Road America is esteemed for being one of the world’s finest and most challenging road courses—and One of the few circuits to maintain its original configuration.
Road America has long been a special place for TRG and team owner Kevin Buckler, who first started racing at the circuit over 30 years ago. "I had my first-ever track day at Road America in 1988 and I was hooked,” he says. “This place is just steeped in history. Road America is a TRG favorite, and we’ve had some fantastic success here and some terrific times!" The special magic of Road America continued last year, when Team TRG returned to racing and were able to meet with fans and guests for the first time in months. Last year’s experience also brought TRG a new team member, Todd Hetherington.
Derek DeBoer and Spencer Pumpelly return to GT4 America SprintX PRO/AM racing this weekend. Coming out of VIR at 5th place in June, they have hit the “reset” button and arrive in Elkhart Lake refreshed and raring to go.
Todd Hetherington will be racing on home turf for the first time this weekend with Dr. Jim Rappaport in TRG’s #17. Road America is their 3rd race together in the GT4 America SprintX AM category. They’ve spent this season establishing great camaraderie and precise rhythm and they look forward to competing on a track that they both know well.
Derek DeBoer "Spencer and I can’t wait to get back on track after this long summer break…. Road America is one of our favorites and is pretty much a home town race for many of our fans, friends and partners with LaSalle Solutions so we’ll look forward to bringing some great pace and getting this #66 onto the top step of the podium!
I’d also like to thank the team and Heatherington family for stepping in with a back up car to resolve our Nashville situation—we couldn’t be here without them!"
Spencer Pumpelly "I'm looking forward to the Road America race this weekend. We took home a win here last year and we will have some great guests at the track supporting us. The LaSalle Solutions crew always shows up in force as this race is near home for the company. They enjoy the off track action just as much as the on track stuff so you know there will be some Adobe Road uncorked."
Dr. Rappaport “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of (perfection and speed) Happiness. Thank goodness for the opportunity to be on this great team with this great organization that has made this racing season possible in this great country of ours. The TRG Porsche #17 team is coming together and we expect a breakout performance at Road America, Todd's home track. It's Also Dr. Jim's favorite, in part due to the previous success at this track. To make it perfect a bit of rain would be fantastic!
Todd Hetherington “I’ve found that opportunity is all about the conversation. Without that conversation, where does life take you? Last August, at Road America, my 11-year-old daughter, Brooke, started a conversation with Violet and Steve Robb of LaSalle Solutions, sponsors of The Racers Group. Moments later, I was meeting Kevin Buckler, Derek DeBoer, Dr. Jim Rappaport and Spencer Pumpelly. I realized that my desire to become a professional racecar driver was about to come true. I’ve always loved Porsches and spent many hours riding the turns at Road America as a club driver. Suddenly, there I was, on my home turf, glimpsing my future. Now, with the incredible support of my wife, Wendie, and my kids, I'm returning to Elkhart Lake to race on my home turf. I’m thrilled to continue my journey with Team TRG and the skilled drivers I met last year. My continuing goal this year is to bring synergy and dynamics to this talented team and support both my co-driver, Dr. Jim Rappaport, and TRG #66’s drive to the SprintX championship!”
