Will Aspin confident and ready for Knockhill Porsche Carrera Cup GB weekend

Will Aspin is set to kick off the second half of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season this weekend (August 11-13), as the series makes its annual jaunt north to the technically challenging Knockhill in Scotland.

The undulating 1.3-mile circuit climbs and falls some 200 feet from its highest to lowest points and provides a stern test for drivers, with lap times of around 48 seconds, meaning there will be little time to relax.

Will has competed at the venue in the past, in the Ginetta Junior Championship and Carrera Cup, with a difficult visit last year, being caught up in a scary incident at the start of the opening race through no fault of his own, which had a knock-on effect for race two unfortunately as well.

After enjoying the summer break, the Italian/British teenager is excited to return to racing – having undertaken a recent test day at Donington Park as well as competing at the British Grand Prix in the Porsche Supercup – ready to banish some of the bad luck which has blighted his campaign so far.

After an official Porsche test on Wednesday, August 9th, Will and his Team Parker Racing colleagues will have two practice sessions on Friday, before qualifying takes place on Saturday 12th at 14:35. The first of two 32-lap contests is set to begin at 09:40 on Sunday, with race two at 13:45, which will be broadcast live on ITV4 in the UK.

“The first half of the season hasn't met the expectations I have had and really, we should be a lot higher up on the championship. There's not really an excuse for that but under different circumstances we'd have kept pole at Thruxton and would probably have won the race. That's not me trying to be cocky, but where you start is often where you finish in the Carrera Cup.

“Knockhill last year was an interesting round, but I'm really looking forward to heading back the Cup car. I like the track and it's like a big go kart circuit in the Porsche. As always, qualifying really matters and I'd say it's one of the most important rounds for qualifying, because it's very rare you'll get a clear overtaking opportunity. I'm excited, the team's excited, and we had a useful day testing at Donington recently. I'm really confident about what I can do in the car and where we will be able to finish instead of where we have been finishing so far.”
