32 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup present during two-day test at the "Temple of Speed"
With the season opener as part of the Monaco GP only one month away, the teams of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup conducted last preparations during a two-day test in Monza. A total of 32 all-new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup took to the iconic “Temple of Speed” in Northern Italy for a total of 14 hours track time without any major incident. Like during the whole 2021 season, the 4.0 litres normally aspirated flat-six engines were running on Esso Renewable Racing Fuel. The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is the first international racing series worldwide using this biomass-based fuel.
Fastest over all four sessions was defending champion Larry ten Voorde (NL, Team GP Elite). The “Flying Dutchman” lapped the 5.793 kms track a tenth of a second faster than his own pole-setting time during last year’s Supercup final in Monza. Additionally, Jaxon Evans (NZL, Martinet by Alméras) and Supercup newcomer Laurin Heinrich (D, Nebulus Racing by Huber) were quicker than this benchmark. Leon Köhler (D, Nebulus Racing by Huber) and Porsche Junior Ayhancan Güven (TR, BWT Lechner Racing) followed. With reigning Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion Harry King (GB, Parker Revs Racing) ninth fastest, another Rookie made it into the top ten.
During the Monza test, Hollywood actor Michael Fassbender (“Ten Years a Slave”, “X-Men”) made a return to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. As part of his personal “Road to Le Mans”, the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) regular collected some seat time in the Supercup’s VIP car. Fassbender is scheduled to drive the No. 911 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in at least one Supercup race during the upcoming season.
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2021 kicks off on 20 May, when the competitors return to the streets of the Principality after a two years break for the first Free Practice of the season.
