Absolute Racing teams secure PCCA silverware at Tianjin

Absolute Racing serviced teams collected silverware in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia maiden visit to V1 Tianjin International Circuit in China. BD Group driver Ling Kang showed again that he is more than a podium contender this season. This Jiangsu-native confirmed his speed by setting the second fastest time in the qualifying session just 0.378 seconds off the pole-position time. In Saturday's race, the BD Group driver made a poor start, losing ground to the two leader drivers. Struggling with the brakes, he finished in third place.

For Sunday's race, Ling Kang would start from first position and was ready to battle for victory. The #22 BD Group Porsche 911 GT3 Cup made a poor slow start again and was rammed by an opponent at the very first corner. He had to bounce back from last to cross the finish line in sixth - pending an appeal that can promote him to fifth - posting the fastest lap time in the process.

Ling Kang was not the only Absolute Racing supported driver to take the podium this weekend, as Bao Jinlong stood on the podium twice in the Pro-Am class. The Team Shanghai Yonda driver finished both races in second position, good enough to move up to second in the class drivers’ standings.

After a lacklustre season opening in Zhuzhou, Chinese touring car multiple champion Zhang Zhendong bounced back in Tianjin. The HEHEHE Racing driver narrowly missed a podium in race two, crossing the finish line in fifth (pending an appeal that can promote him to fourth). An early contact damaged Luo Tian Yi-livered car in the opening lap, and an accident later in the race would cost him positions but won’t impede Zhang Zhendong to obtain his best result so far this season.

Team Shanghai Yonda’s Pro driver Bian Ye finished P10 and P11 overall in race one and race two respectively, collecting precious points for his efforts.

Team Betterlife’s Li Chao had a rough weekend in Tianjin. The Beijing driver did not start for race one due to an accident during the morning’s qualifying session, and was involved on a race incident in opening lap of the second encounter.

Fabien Fior, Team Director of Absolute Racing, said, "“It was our first time here with Carrera Cup Asia and we went into the race weekend knowing that, under normal circumstances, things would not be easy for our drivers. Ling Kang finished in the podium in the opening race and grabbed pole-position for race two. If he wasn’t taken out in the first corner of the second race, a podium position was perfectly within reach as demonstrated by the best lap time in the race. Bao Jinlong did his job well, finishing on the podium twice in the Pro-Am class.. Zhang Zhendong showed that he is more adapted to the car and that he too can have a say in the fight for the podium places. Bian Ye and Li Chao continued their learning. We are looking forward to final results after the decision regarding the ongoing appeal."

The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has one-week break before reconvening at Zhuhai in Guangdong Province for rounds 5 and 6 on September 10/11.
