Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach to Run Porsche Carrera Cup North America in 2022

Porsche Motorsport North America, International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) and Grand Prix Association of Long Beach officials announced today that the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach will run two rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by The Cayman Islands during its April 8-10, 2022 race weekend.

Two 45-minute races will be conducted, one on Saturday, April 9, and the other Sunday, April 10. Practice and qualifying will precede the race events on Friday, April 8.

Porsche Carrera Cup is one of the preeminent one-make racing series in the world and sanctioned by IMSA. Every car competing in the series is identical: the road car-based Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car, which places the emphasis on driver and team talent to win.

There are 10 Porsche Carrera Cup series on four continents, and it has become a career launching pad for drivers who have made it to the top ranks of international sports car competition such as Wolf Henzler, Patrick Long, Lucas Luhr, Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy.

The 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup North America, entering its second season of competition, will feature eight races at racetracks spanning the United States and Canada. It will be the first time the Porsche Carrera Cup North America has run at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

“Our goal with the Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands is to maintain its position as the elite one-make championship in the United States and Canada,” offered Volker Holzmeyer, president and CEO of Porsche Motorsport North America. “That means improving every year and placing our customer teams in elite environments. The Grand Prix of Long Beach is an iconic event known around the world for its on-track competition as well as the enthusiasm and knowledge of its fans. This is an event which fits perfectly into our objectives. The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car is directly based on the 911 GT3 road car, so it is natural to have us on the streets of Long Beach. We look forward to presenting our brand of racing at our home event in 2022 and, we hope, for years to come.”

“We are delighted to be showcasing the North American version of the world-famous Porsche Carrera Cup on the streets of Long Beach next year,” said Grand Prix Association of Long Beach President and CEO Jim Michaelian. “Anyone who has seen these identical cars being driven by young, up-and-coming drivers knows how exciting this racing is and I know our fans will certainly enjoy the fierce competition here next April.”

In addition to the Porsche Carrera Cup, the 2022 Acura Grand Prix will be headlined by the third round of the 2022 NTT INDYCAR SERIES and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. More racing events will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets will go on sale to the public on November 29, with ticket renewals starting October 25. For more information, visit gplb.com or call the Ticket Office at (888) 827-7333.
