DB Motorsport with instructive ADAC GT Masters debut
The past race weekend was a special one for DB Motorsport. Daniel Badum's racing team made its debut in the ADAC GT Masters at the Red Bull Ring. Eight-time P9 Challenge Endurance champion Hermann Speck and GT3 ace and local hero Gerhard Tweraser competed in a Porsche 911 GT3 R (991.2 generation).
"It was clear to us from the outset that it would be an apprenticeship weekend," says Badum. "We've never driven on the Pirelli tyre before, so it felt like a completely new car."
On Thursday, the team had three extensive test sessions, during which the racing team and the drivers were able to familiarise themselves with the Pirelli tyres before the race weekend officially started on Friday. While Thursday's test still took place in sunny conditions, the Red Bull Ring was waiting for the participants on Friday with rain, so that DB Motorsport had to get used to new conditions again.
The qualifying for Saturday's race was chaotic: A damp track and an interruption 1 minute and 50 seconds before the end of qualifying made for a real poker. Gerhard Tweraser was the fastest Porsche driver in 13th position, but after a penalty, the team had to start the race from the back of the field. The duo finished the first race in 18th place in the overall standings, which is equivalent to seventh place in the Pro-Am class.
A similar picture on Sunday: The yellow Porsche started from the back of the field and struggled to keep up with the speed of the newer cars in dry conditions. Speck and Tweraser again finished the race in 18th place overall and seventh in the Pro-Am class.
Team owner Daniel Badum concluded: "We felt comfortable on our ADAC GT Masters debut! It's a great racing series on a strong platform. In addition, we had the impression that the ADAC had made a lot of effort for us. We are very pleased that the Pro-Am class is getting stronger and stronger, which is a great environment for our team. For the 2025 season, the ADAC GT Masters is a real alternative to our racing programme and we will continue to keep an eye on the development of the racing series. On our first race weekend, we were able to learn a lot in the ADAC GT Masters, especially in dealing with the Pirelli tyres, which are very special compared to what we are used to."
