Parker Revs Motorsport completed difficult back-to-back races in Austria in the Porsche Supercup last weekend (July 2-4) as Harry King and Michael Crees took to track in the team’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machines.

With Harry absent due to commitments in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB last time out, Michael had to drive solo without the benefit of his GB champion team-mate, but this weekend the team was aiming to respond in positive fashion.

Things started well with Harry finishing practice seventh fastest overall and Michael fourth in Pro-Am. In qualifying Harry finished with the sixth quickest time but lost his lap due to track limits at turn nine, relegating him to a disappointing 15th, while Michael was seventh in class, leaving both with plenty to do during the race itself.

Making a rapid start, Harry quickly looked to make amends as he made up several places and was challenging for 11th place going into the tricky turn four. However, as he lined up a pass on Jukka Honkavuori he received contact from Christopher Zoechling behind him. That sent him into the corner at speed and, despite the best efforts of the Porsche GB Junior Driver, he was unable to avoid spinning into the gravel, where the car beached itself and caused his retirement

Michael persevered in the Pro-Am class, running fourth and making a challenge for third before a small moment running wide dropped him back down the order. But, he had a close battle with Philipp Sager, frustratingly crossing the line just 0.6s behind his French rival, finishing seventh in class and ahead of actor Michael Fassbender after 17 laps of racing.

After the understandable but disappointing news that the Porsche Supercup round at Silverstone in mid-July has been moved to Monza, where there will be a double-header, the team will now have a four-week break until the weekend of July 30-August 1, when it will head to the Hungaroring in Hungary for round four of the season.

“Returning to the 992-model Cup car went well as we’d raced at the circuit in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux. However, most of the field also competes in the German championship and they have been here several times this season already, so no matter what we did they had done more than us.

“I had good knowledge to get on it straight away in free practice, where we finished seventh. We were confident going into qualifying, though with a short lap the times were very close. We missed out a little in that session which left us a bit short so we started where we shouldn’t have been. I had a good start and made up four places in the first few corners but made a little bit of contact at turn four which sent me into the gravel and ended my race, which was a real shame. Regardless I am looking forward to getting back out on track soon.”

Michael Crees, #18, Pro-Am
Pro-Am Championship: 7 (18 points)

“Both the team and I are still learning the car, but we’ve made some progress and we took some steps forward with the setup. It was a tough weekend for both me and Harry but, that said, I had a good start and was up to fourth in class. I was challenging for third but then ran wide, got two wheels on the gravel, and dropped back.

“It was really useful having these back-to-back races. I had that bit more experience this time around but there’s so much to learn. I’d love some more testing, which will help me, as there’s definitely a knack to driving these cars and I haven’t quite got there yet. I can’t be too hard on myself though, I had a good race this weekend, we had some good battles, and I’m happy with my driving, so we look forward to Hungary.”
