Jacob Tofts claims victory after Dino Filippa’s costly mistake at the Hockenheimring
PorscheSport driver Jacob Tofts, wins Round 11 of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, on the iRacing platform.
A chaotic rolling start to the half an hour race involved a 7-car pileup at Turn 1, that allowed for mini battles to form across the grid, with a respectful battle for sixth position between Gillian Salomon and Christoph Weitz taking place. Weitz coming out best after his beautiful switchback move on Salomon at the Hairpin with 15 minutes left. Dino Filippa, meanwhile, had taken the race lead with Jacob Tofts following closely behind by under a second.
With seven minutes remaining, the outcome of the race was concluded, as Filippa made a nightmare mistake at the Stadium section, that cost him the race win in the end when he lost the GT4 car onto the grass, moving across the track and the path of Tofts who was able to avoid Filippa.
Tofts having avoided Filippa was now able to run away with a 1.2-second lead and over the line to a gifted victory at the Hockenheimring circuit. The PorscheSport driver also claimed the fastest lap of the 18-lap race, with a 1:44.345.
Jacob Tofts: “I’ have been waiting all week for this race in order to compare my self against some of the best in the car, so this is a great outcome. Of course I would have liked to have qualified on pole and been leading, instead of having to force Dino into a mistake. He drove a great race and was probably a few tenths a lap quicker than myself. Therefore, it made sense to sit behind him and build a gap to third with the intention of overtaking on the last lap. I’m happy with the rate of improvement over the past week or so with the car, it’s so different to the cup car and RSR in the way to drive it quickly. You can hold it on the limit for a whole race, this was something I enjoyed today and during our Creventic Series win at Spa.”
The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge concludes with the final round at the Road Atlanta circuit, on the 4th of June
