Li Chao takes GTSSC podium for Porsche
Li Chao secured a maiden GT Super Sprint Challenge (GTSSC) podium in Race 1 at the Zhuhai International Circuit. The Absolute Racing driver took second place in the #910 Porsche 911 GT3 R in the penultimate round of the amateur-focused series’ inaugural season.
The China GT race winner rose from fourth on the grid following a damp qualifying session to make it to the rostrum. With a fifth-place finish in Race 2, Li Chao backed up the strong pace he demonstrated on his series debut in Shanghai last month.
YC Racing’s Xiao Min also entered his second GTSSC event, sealing second place in the Am Masters class in Race 1 in the previous generation #51 machine.
Although Zhou Bihuang was unable to participate in qualifying, the Team 777 by ClimaxRacing driver recovered well in the first 27-minute race of the day to take seventh.
The final GTSSC round will take place at the Shanghai International Circuit on 6-7 November.
Li Chao, #910 Porsche 911 GT3 R: “Overall, it was a good weekend for me and it’s a great feeling to stand on the podium. I was really quick in practice but found the mixed conditions in qualifying more difficult. Race 1 was strong, I worked my way up into second place and I’m really happy with the result. In Race 2 I was pushed by another car at Turn 1 and almost lost control, so that limited my performance in Race 2. Thanks to the team for their hard work and I’ll look to improve for the next event.”
Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “I’m really pleased to see Li Chao take his first podium finish in GTSSC. The series is proving to be a great platform for Porsche’s gentlemen drivers to test themselves on challenging circuits against tough competitors and to develop their racing skills. In its inaugural season, GTSSC has attracted plenty of entries and I’m looking forward to the season finale in Shanghai next month.”
