Mateo Llarena turns professional at only 16 years of age

After the two events at Austria’s Red Bull Ring, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup moved to the Hungarian Circuit at Budapest as part of the Formula One Grand Prix event.

Mateo Llarena achieved his best race result in addition to his first point in the Porsche one brand series after finishing 15th in only his third participation in the championship.

The result means that Llarena, who is still only 16 years of age, the only Latino in the series and ambassador of Porsche Latin America, officially becomes a professional racing driver according to the official regulations of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The young man had also previously improved his best result in the qualifying session aboard the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup #14 of Molitor-Racing-Systems.

This result not only rewards with 1 point in the championship but also the 15th position rewards Llarena with its first financial pay. The organization pays only those ranked from the 1st to the 15th place in the results table of each race.

"We are very happy, we have just finished the race here in Budapest, we managed to arrive at P15, a great achievement for us, the first points for us in this championship," Llarena said in a video for the Speed Addiction medium.

"Of 25 professional pilots out there, staying P15 is great for us, so far our best result here and we are sure that little by little we will continue to climb more and go with everything. The next race is in Silverstone, England, it's two dates in a row, we know we can give everything we have and even improve and as always put the Guatemalan flag up," he continued.

The next date of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020 will be August 2 at the iconic Silverstone, England circuit on the same Formula One World Cup weekend.
