Matteo Cairoli to drive for Absolute Racing in Motegi and Okayama
Absolute Racing announces that Porsche Driver Matteo Cairoli will drive the #992 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) alongside the three-time Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Pro-Am champion Bao Jinlong in the upcoming Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia by AWS races in Motegi and Okayama.
Since the beginning of the season, the team has been aware of Alexandre Imperatori's potential commitments elsewhere in the second half of the season. Therefore, the experienced Italian GT driver Matteo Cairoli steps in to take the wheel of the #992 car, which features a striking livery to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.
Matteo Cairoli, who currently competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the European Le Mans Series, is not new to the team. He previously drove for Absolute Racing in the 2020 edition of the Bathurst 12 Hours, finishing seventh.
The upcoming round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia by AWS will take place at the 4.801km Motegi circuit this weekend, featuring another double-header from July 21-23.
Fabien Fior (Team Director): "We are delighted to have Matteo back in the team. The upcoming race in Motegi will present a fresh challenge for him, but he is undeniably one of the fastest Porsche GT drivers out there. I have full confidence that he will swiftly adapt to the team dynamics and gel with his new teammate. Alex has always been an integral part of our racing family, and has been a great help in getting familiar and extracting performance from the 992 GT3 R. We thank him for the hard work and I firmly believe we will have the pleasure of seeing him behind the wheel for us again in the future.”
Alex Imperatori (Driver): “I would like to thank Absolute Racing for all their hard work this year. It’s always a pleasure to be a part of this team. Although my other commitments unfortunately take precedence for the end of the season, I wish them the best in the coming races.”
Matteo Cairoli (Driver): “I am delighted to be taking part in my first-ever Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia by AWS race and to be back with Absolute Racing. The last time we raced together was in Bathurst in 2020. I am looking forward to learning a new track and aiming for a positive outcome.”
