Persson and Sundahl win opening races has fog stops the third Porsche Carrera Cup race in Fällfors

Emil Persson took his first victory in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia when he won the second race in the Midnight Sun Race at Drivecenter Arena in Fällfors with Lukas Sundahl. Smålänningen taking the top of the podium on Friday night.

No additional Saturday winner could ever be crowned. Thick fog pulled in over the facility and made it impossible to determine the weekend's third heat. - A sad, but simple decision, stated the championship's sporting director Thomas Johansson and referred to the drivers' safety.

Sundahl held off until his first Porsche Carrera Cup victory at Drivecenter Arena

Now he can count on a victory also at Drivecenter Arena in Fällfors, four-time Porsche Carrera Cup champion Lukas Sundahl. Smålänningen stepped up to the top of the podium when the first of three races in the Midnight Sun Race was decided on Friday night. Sundahl, who in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) won before Norwegian Formula 2 star Dennis Hauger and Scanian Ola Nilsson, thus took the lead in the championship as the table from the premiere, Hampus Ericsson, went off and broke.

A strong qualifier, where he secured pole position in all three races this weekend, Lukas Sundahl followed up with a victory already on Friday. He has stood on the podium in Fällfors before, but never as a winner.

”It feels good to have a first place up here as well. I got a good start from pole position, pressed a little in the beginning and created a gap. When Hampus then disappeared, I took it easy to save the rear tires”, said Sundahl, who at the end of the race was courted by guest driver Dennis Hauger. The Norwegian approached, but got a puncture and had to settle for second place before Ola Nilsson.

Super fun with podium
The latter qualified as second, but because he was too fast under the yellow flag, he was relegated three places on the grid and therefore started from fifth position. He did not completely agree with the race management about that punishment, but all the happier about the placement in the race.
”Super fun with a podium. In addition, I felt that I kept a steady pace with both Sundahl and Hauger”, said a satisfied Nilsson.

Strong runs
Behind the top trio, Pontus Fredricsson drove up to fourth place - from the eighth starting position he, like Nilsson, got because he was also far too fast under the yellow flag in the qualifiers. Edvin Hellsten made the same mistake, but he was also responsible for a strong run-up - from twelfth to sixth place.
Between Fredricsson and Hellsten, Emil Persson settled in. Other drivers on the top ten list were Marcus Annervi, Mikael Karlsson, Robin Knutsson and Hannes Morin. The latter was also the fastest in the Porsche Approved Cup - the class in the class of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991 II). Second there was Christoffer Bergström and third Andreas Ahlberg.
The latter tops the table, now with Morin closest behind him.

First victory for Persson - and first podium for Knutsson

Emil Persson mastered the tough conditions best in the second race at Drivecenter Arena. In persistent rain with a lot of water on the track, he took his first victory in the championship. Robin Knutsson, who finished third, took first place in the podium, behind Hampus Ericsson.

“Finally came the victory”, cheered Persson, who took the finish flag behind the safety car due to a salvage at the final laps. Persson started from the fourth box and guarded that position at the beginning of the race. ”It was very difficult to drive and I kept calm”, he says.

Still, it was about to tighten the barrel in the first corner on the fifth lap. There, leading Lukas Sundahl, second Dennis Hauger and fourth Ola Nilsson missed the braking and all were forced to take a detour via a so-called escape road. “I just tried to get the car in because I was on my way there too”, Persson admitted with a smile.

While Sundahl, Hauger and Nilsson literally slipped down the results list, Emil took over the lead, most recently followed by Hampus Ericsson, Pontus Fredricsson, Marcus Annervi and Robin Knutsson. Fredricsson then made the same mistake as the above-mentioned trio and at the same lap Knutsson took over Annervi and was suddenly third, a placement he held all the way to the finish. ”Fun with a podium place”, the newcomer thought in the championship and admitted that he was also bad out on several occasions.
”I barely stayed on the track”.

Hampus Ericsson, who was unlucky in Friday's qualifier and who also broke Friday's race, made a good start, but was a bit too aggressive initially and lost from third to fifth place. When the top trio finished, he advanced and took many valuable points with his third second place of the season. In the championship top in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, Ericsson took on Lukas Sundahl and is now only three points behind in his second place. However, both he and Sundahl are overshadowed by Emil Persson.

Messrs. Sundahl, Hauger and Nilsson, who shared the podium after Friday's race, took the finish flag in ninth, 14th and fifth place. Pontus Fredricsson lost to position twelve in goal.

Six in the race finished Hannes Morin, who thus took the full pot and took over the lead in the Porsche Approved Cup. Second and third in that class in the race were Christoffer Bergström (tenth in total) and Andreas Ahlberg (11).
