Pfaff Motorsports Honored with Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame Induction
The history of Pfaff Motorsports spans more than four decades, with the team enjoying success in multiple racing series, including the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Because of its ongoing achievements and stamina, the Pfaff Motorsports team was inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame (CMHF) during a gala ceremony on Feb. 25 in Toronto.
Pfaff general manager Steve Bortolotti accepted the award as former and present drivers and crew cheered him on.
“It was great to be part of the induction ceremony and have drivers past and present and crew join us for the celebration,” Bortolotti said. “Pfaff has been involved in racing for decades. Chris (Pfaff, owner) and his father were racers and are passionate about the sport. Seeing all the drivers there, who drove for the team in years past, was extremely special. To accept the award on the team’s behalf was great.
“It was also a celebration of 75 years of Porsche being here in Canada and that was a great tie-in with our racing because most of those years of Pfaff racing have been with the Porsche brand,” he added.
Pfaff Motorsports has enjoyed plenty of accomplishments since crossing south over the border in 2019.
In the last two years, Pfaff has won the Rolex 24 At Daytona (2022) and Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring (2021), plus enjoyed back-to-back championships in different Grand Touring Daytona (GTD) classes (GTD in 2021 and GTD PRO in 2022).
The team also boasts the 2018 GT World Challenge America championship and is a three-time Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada champion.
Pfaff Motorsports finds itself in good company at the CMHF.
Previous inductees include Canadian competitors such as Gilles Villeneuve and his son Jacques, Ron Fellows and Richard Spenard.
Pfaff Motorsports’ team owner Chris Pfaff was inducted as a Significant Contributor to Canadian Motorsports as part of the Class of 2016. Now he has been joined by his entire race team.
“The induction ceremony was very special, as it was held at the Canadian International Auto Show in a special room dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Porsche,” Pfaff said. “To see our race car in the presence of iconic road and racing machinery, and to share a room with racing greats such as Derek Bell, was truly humbling.”
Such honors are usually reserved for those who have finished their service to the sport, which is why Bortolotti was quick to point out that Pfaff Motorsports is quite active in the sport.
Currently, Pfaff Motorsports is contesting the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season with its No. 9 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) in the GTD PRO class.
“Again, we are not done writing our story,” Bortolotti said. “We are actively competing, but this was a huge honor for us. With that said, we still have goals we want to achieve as a team. We want to compete at the highest level possible in the WeatherTech Championship. We want to compete for championships year after year.”
