Porsche also wins the second race at the Nürburgring

The second race weekend of the ADAC GT Masters is all about Porsche. After the victory on Saturday the Stuttgart triumph also in the second race with Robert Renauer (35 / Vierkirchen) and Sven Müller (28 / Bingen am Rhein, both Precote Herberth Motorsport), who drove to their first win of the season. Second place went to Charles Weerts (19 / B) and Dries Vanthoor (22 / B, both Team WRT) in the best Audi R8 LMS ahead of the Lamborghini works drivers Franck Perera (36 / F) and (Albert Costa Balboa (30 / E, both GRT Grasser Racing Team). "A great victory," said the happy winner Robert Renauer. "That was a small compensation for our unfortunate start to the season at the Lausitzring."

Porsche are making up positions at the start
Müller and Renauer laid the foundation for their victory with a strong start. Müller improved from fifth to third and was behind his brand colleague David Jahn, who had taken the lead from sixth on the grid, until the pit stops. Jahn defended this until the pit stops against pole setters Kelvin van der Linde (24 / ZA, Rutronik Racing) and Müller, who followed closely behind. Van der Linde completed his stop as the first of the leading group and handed it over to partner Patric Niederhauser. Thanks to the early change, the two defending champions took first place after the stops, which they could only be happy about for a short time. A subsequent drive-through penalty for an offense at the pit stop threw the Audi duo far back. In the end, it had to be content with tenth place, despite the fastest race lap.

The new front runner was now Müller's partner Renauer, who had passed his brand colleagues Jahn and Fittje with a better pit stop strategy. Renauer then pulled away slightly and finally drove 3.7 seconds ahead to his first win of the season. It was the seventh triumph in the ADAC GT Masters for Bayern and his racing team Precote Herberth Motorsport and the second for Porsche works driver Müller.

David Jahn and Jannes Fittje saw the checkered flag as second. But a subsequent 30-second penalty for an "Unsafe Release" at the pit stop threw her out of the points. Charles Weerts (19 / B) and Dries Vanthoor (22 / B, both Team WRT) moved up to second place. The two Belgians took their second podium of the year with their Audi after winning the second race of the season opener. Weerts thus also secured victory in the Pirelli Junior classification.

Also on the podium came third - for the first time this year - the Lamborghini works drivers Franck Perera (36 / F) and Albert Costa Balboa (30 / E, both GRT Grasser Racing Team), followed by Rolf Ineichen (42nd place) in fourth / CH) and Mirko Bortolotti (30 / I, both Team WRT) crossed the finish line in another Audi. Ineichen also won the Pirelli Trophy classification.

Markus Pommer (29 / Neckarsulm) and Jeffrey Schmidt (26 / CH, both Callaway Competition) came fifth in the only Corvette in the field, ahead of the Audi duo Max Hofer (21 / A) and Christopher Haase (32 / Kulmbach, both Montaplast by Land Motorsport). Maro Engel (34 / Monte Carlo) and Luca Stolz (25 / Brachbach, both Toksport WRT) defended their championship lead in seventh place with their Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, but missed the podium for the first time this season. Her brand colleagues Philip Ellis (27 / GB) and Raffaele Marciello (25 / I, both Knaus-Team HTP-Winward) finished eighth ahead of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo of Steijn Schothorst (25 / NL) and Tim Zimmermann (23 / Langenargen) , both GRT Grasser Racing Team).

Quotes from the winners:

Robert Renauer (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R):"Basically, my race today was relatively unspectacular. I took over the car from Sven in first position, I was then able to defend that position. The second generation of the Porsche 911 GT3 R in particular obviously works very well here at the Nürburgring. The car has done a lot Felt balanced, we had consistently good pace. The fact that we were able to clinch victory today after our bad luck at the Lausitzring is also a small compensation that we are happy about. "

Sven Müller (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R): "After we got through the last corner of the introductory lap very quickly, the start was very turbulent. It went well for us, we were able to gain two positions straight away. It was difficult on the Audi [from Kelvin van der Linde] and on the Porsche [by David Jahn] came by, of course I was lucky in the end. After our miserable start to the season at the Lausitzring, we are of course very happy with the win here! "
