Porsche customers set for GT Super Sprint Challenge finalein Shanghai

Four Porsche customers across three classes are set to take on the final round of the inaugural GT Super Sprint Challenge (GTSSC) season this weekend as the bronze driver-focused series travels back to the Shanghai International Circuit.

The championship held its first two rounds at the 5.451-kilometre track, which features 16 corners. The 16-time Formula 1 Chinese Grands Prix venue hosted the finales of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Presented by AximTrade and Porsche Sports Cup China last weekend, as well as the Porsche Sportscar Together Day.

Porsche will be represented by two cars from Absolute Racing in the GT3 class. After scoring pole position on his maiden outing, Bian Ye makes his second GTSSC appearance in the #3 Porsche 911 GT3 R. In the sister #13 machine, Sun Jingzu also returns following his overall podium finish at the Shanghai round in September.

Fresh from a double GT4 class victory in last weekend’s Porsche Sprint Challenge China, David Szu returns to the series with Absolute Racing, driving the #2 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Szu made his GTSSC debut when the championship last visited Shanghai, claiming two podium finishes.

Ray Lou completes the quartet of Porsche entries, driving the #23 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Type 991.2) for TRT Racing.

Ingo Matter, Team Director, Absolute Racing: "This is the GT Super Sprint Challenge’s final event of the season and we've got a great line-up. David is coming off a fantastic weekend in Porsche Sprint Challenge China, where he won the GT4 class twice, while Bian Ye has shown his speed with a pole position in Shanghai last time out. Sun Jingzu also demonstrated that he can be a podium contender in the overall standings, even though he is still adjusting to the 911 GT3 R. Our drivers are looking forward to it as it’s a circuit they’ve gone well at in the past."

Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “I’m really looking forward to the GT Super Sprint Challenge season finale in Shanghai. The series has enjoyed a successful first year, as shown by the healthy entry list for this weekend’s event. Porsche is once again represented in all three classes and we’re delighted by the response from our customers competing in this series. We wish all the best to everyone competing this weekend and hope to see some great racing.”
