Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific completes excellent weekend of racing at Sepang

Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific enjoyed a fantastic weekend at Sepang, with some brilliant performances in Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand and Porsche Carrera Cup Asia producing two spectacular races.

Competing on the same bill for the first time since 2019, the weekend was a crucial moment in both championships.
 
In Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand, the marque claimed a strong double podium in the GTM category, with brothers Tanart and Munkong Sathienthirakul securing second place for Mongkol Motorsports, ahead of Fire Monkey Motorsport’s Simon Chan and Shaun Thong in third. Erwin de Smit and Sandy Stuvik took victory in the GT4 category, while their B-Quik Absolute Racing teammates Iaro Razanakoto and Chanon Asavasangsidhi finished in third.

On Sunday, father-and-son duo Vutthikorn and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak took a strong second place for AAS Motorsport in the GT3 category. Porsche claimed another double GTM podium, with championship leaders Jakraphan Davee and Phaophong Chanchalia snatching second for Alpha Factory Racing by Pulzar, ahead of the Sathienthirakul brothers, who took their second podium of the weekend. Meanwhile, in the GT4 category, B-Quik Absolute Racing secured a 1-2, with Razanakoto and Asavasangsidhi finishing ahead of de Smit and Stuvik.
 
Finally, in the GTC event, Putera Adam claimed a pair of podiums, picking up second on Saturday before securing third in the second race of the weekend.

Meanwhile, in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, Chris van der Drift stepped up his charge for a fourth title with a double victory at the Malaysian circuit for Team Shanghai Yongda, taking his tally for the season to three. In Round 9, Porsche Holding’s Martin Ragginger returned to the podium for the first time since Suzuka, while Nazim Azman earned his first top-three finish in the series for Sime Darby Racing Team at his home circuit. Championship leader Florian Latorre chased van der Drift all the way to the line on Sunday to claim second for Meidong Racing, with fellow title contender Luo Kailuo close behind in third in the #99 TORO Racing car.

Zheng Tong Auto’s Bao Jinlong continued strongly in his hunt for a fourth Pro-Am title, with he and Porsche Beijing and Central Goldenport’s Zhou Bihuang taking a win and a second place apiece. There were also podium finishes for Li Chao in the Team Betterlife car and Hong Shijie for Team C&D.
 
Ruoyu Yang’s excellent form in his debut season continued for BD Group, claiming both victories at Sepang. Modena Motorsports’ John Shen and Christian Chia for OpenRoad Racing joined him on the podium in Race 1, while TORO Racing’s Zhang Yaqi and R&B Racing’s Wu Jiaxin stepped on the rostrum on Sunday.
