Porsche Sprint Challenge GB evolves for 2024

Porsche Motorsport GB has revealed the next evolutionary step for Porsche Sprint Challenge GB. At the 2024 championship launch event held at the Porsche Experience Centre, Silverstone, existing stakeholders and interested prospects were treated to a glimpse of plans for 2024. It ensures that the championship continues to form a crucial part of the Porsche Motorsport Pyramid.

Porsche Motorsport GB's second single-marque GT racing championship enters its fifth season in 2024. Alongside the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport comes the arrival of an all-new car – the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. Both cars will form an equally important part of the 2024 championship, with drivers in two competitive categories – Pro and Am – appearing in each generation of Porsche Cayman racer. The evolutionary concept promises to deliver healthy grids and exceptionally close racing across four separate categories.

Entering the second season of its current three-year agreement, Porsche Sprint Challenge GB will continue to enjoy a major presence on the TOCA package. Across six racing weekends, four of those alongside Porsche Carrera Cup GB, the championship will race exclusively on the same billing as the British Touring Car Championship. Live free-to-air television coverage from the ITV network will continue to entertain millions of viewers each weekend.

The 2024 championship gets under way at Snetterton in May and concludes at Brands Hatch in October. As introduced in 2023, each weekend will host three races, taking the total number of rounds to 18. The season sees the championship return to Oulton Park for the first time since 2022, with an inaugural appearance on the Island layout.

Provisional 2023 calendar:

25 / 26 May Snetterton (300) Rounds 1, 2 & 3

22 / 23 June Oulton Park Rounds 4, 5 & 6

27 / 28 July Croft Rounds 7, 8 & 9

24 / 25 August Donington Park (GP) Rounds 10, 11 &12

21 / 22 September Silverstone (National) Rounds 13, 14 & 15

5 / 6 October Brands Hatch (GP) Rounds 16, 17 & 18

2024 regulations

The championship’s regulations and points structure have evolved each year since its introduction in 2020. With the arrival of the GT4 RS Clubsport, the championship will now enjoy four categories in total – Pro and Am for drivers of the existing GT4 Clubsport, and Pro and Am for drivers of the new GT4 RS Clubsport.

In each of the four driver categories, one championship point is awarded to the fastest Pro and the fastest Am during qualifying. One championship point will also be awarded in each category for the fastest lap during the race. Five championship awards will be made at the end of the season: RS Pro, RS Am, Clubsport Pro, Clubsport Am, and Teams. An overall points table, calculated on the same basis as in 2023, will determine the Teams championship.

Introduced in 2023, Porsche Sprint Challenge GB weekends will continue to include Porsche-supported testing prior to each race event. In addition, four exclusive Porsche-supported test days, one pre-season and three in-season, will provide drivers with more track time inclusive of their entry fee.

Incentives package

Porsche Sprint Challenge GB continues its innovative incentives package shared with Carrera Cup GB. Introduced in 2022, the package is designed to attract the best of the UK’s racing talent. The overall 2023 champions in selected high-profile British championships will qualify for a half-price championship entry fee for Porsche Sprint Challenge GB.

Qualifying championships are:

Ginetta GT Academy - Overall champion
Ginetta GT5 - Pro Class champion
Ginetta GT Championship - GTP Class champion
Ginetta Junior Championship - Overall champion
MINI Challenge Championship - JCW class champion
Porsche Club GB Championship - Overall champion
British GT - GT4 overall champion
FIA British Formula 4 - Overall champion

For any drivers interested in competing in the championship there will be an opportunity to test the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, alongside the chance to learn more about the championship, at the annual Taster Day held at Silverstone in November. Early registration rewards are available for qualifying drivers up to the value of £2,000.

New for 2024 is an incentive that has proved exceptionally popular with Porsche Carrera Cup GB competitors. Champions in both the Pro RS and Pro Clubsport categories will receive the use of a new Porsche 718 Cayman for one year. Adding further to the championship’s prize package, unprecedented at this level of British motorsport, the second placed driver in both Pro categories receives £4,000, the third placed driver £2,000. Meanwhile, the champion in both Am categories receives £5,000, the second placed driver gets £2,000, the third placed driver £1,000.

Safety enhancements

Driver safety is always a priority for Porsche and, as part of this, the in-car flag signalling system adopted by Porsche Sprint Challenge GB in 2022 continues for 2024. This electronic system is integrated into the vehicle, alerting drivers to safety flags and the deployment of the Safety Car, providing a direct visual link between Race Control and the driver.

718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport

Porsche Sprint Challenge GB continues to use the 425 hp Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, which remains an integral part of the championship. Porsche Motorsport GB is committed to including a category for the GT4 Clubsport until at least the end of 2026. Offering drivers switchable ABS, traction control and stability control, the GT4 Clubsport is optimised for racing, though it bears close similarities with its road-going counterpart through a high percentage of carry-over parts. The GT4 Clubsport's ‘zero hours’ engine and gearbox rebuild schedule ensures lower running costs for competitors.

718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport

New for 2024 is the addition of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport for both amateur and professional drivers alike. The all-new RS Clubsport is based on the successful 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, its 4.0 flat-six engine – derived from the engine found in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – developing 500 hp. A seven-speed PDK gearbox features shorter ratios than that of the GT4 Clubsport. An enhanced aerodynamics package includes a larger front splitter and dive planes, front air curtains and wheel arch vents, NACA ducts to improve brake cooling and efficiency, and a larger rear wing with increased adjustability. The GT4 RS Clubsport's engine has a long 100-hour rebuild schedule, while its ‘zero hours’ gearbox rebuild schedule lowers competitor running costs.

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport is priced at £159,900 plus VAT and delivery. Orders can be placed from 1 November through Porsche Motorsport GB alongside a full season championship entry. A subsidised spares kit is available to purchase with a new car, priced at £10,000.
