Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia returns for second season

Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific’s latest One-Make Series, Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia, is set to begin its second season of competition this weekend at Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, with a strong field of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars in action.

The series enjoyed a successful debut campaign in 2023/24, and expands to four events and eight races this time around, with a GT4 class also joining from Round 2 onwards. In a change for this season, each race weekend will feature two 25 minute + 1 lap Sprint Races.

This weekend’s nine-strong grid will feature a mixture of returning names from the first campaign, along with plenty of new competitors spread across the three driver categories; Pro, Pro Am and Am. Among the familiar faces are Endurance Champion Aldio Oekon, and Hendrik Jaya Soewatdy, who has also been competing in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia in 2024.

Measuring 4.313-kilometres, Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit first opened in 2021 and is situated on the coast of the picturesque tropical island of Lombok . The layout itself features plenty of quick turns, with swift changes of direction a key aspect. The braking zone through Turn 15 and into Turn 16 will challenge drivers, while the best overtaking opportunity is likely to be down the long pit straight towards Turn 1.

The weekend begins with two 45-minute Free Practice sessions on Friday, before Qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday, with Race 2 the sole Sunday event.

Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “We are very pleased to have Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia returning for its second season with an expanded calendar, new participants and the introduction of the GT4 class. It’s brilliant to welcome newcomers to the series while also welcoming back a significant number of returning drivers. We are looking forward to an exciting season ahead and wish all participants the best of luck.”
