PorscheSport Launch Esport Multi-Class - Silverstone 2 Hour Endurance
The team at PorscheSport are delighted today to launch an all Porsche iRacing event to be held on Friday 24th April 2020, 6.00pm GMT. The PorscheSport iRacing Silverstone 2Hour Endurance event will see 40 participants from different nations race in this multi-class event, this will be one of the first times an endurance event has taken place with an all Porsche field. Featuring some of the most iconic Porsches: LMP1 Porsche 919 Hybrid, GTE 911 RSR, GT4 718 and the GT3 911 Cup.
The event will showcase some of the top drivers from both the world of GT racing and Sim Racing, iRacing has become ever popular and this will be another fantastic event watching well known Porsche Factory drivers, British Touring Car drivers and many more, test their skills against established sim racers around the Silverstone track. A week of open practice is available to all participants before drivers take to the British Heritage Track for qualifying at 17.15 GMT with the official race start at 18.00 GMT on Friday 24th April 2020.
Drivers have the option to run the event solo or as a team of two, followers of endurance racing will know the importance of pit strategies and navigating traffic, which will all come into play and decided who takes the PorscheSport Silverstone honours in each class. “As fans of endurance racing we’ve spoke about holding an all Porsche Grid for a long time, there’s no other sport in the world as entertaining as multi class endurance racing in our opinion. To hold an event showcasing all Porsches and some of the best drivers competing in the event is fantastic for the fans” - Paul Holroyd, Porschesport.com.
The Silverstone track is no stranger to multi class endurance racing, the annual 6 Hours of Silverstone in particular features a similar class line up. It does throw up challenges when placed next to other popular endurance tracks, the shorter distant when compared to the Circuit de la Sarthe & Nürburgring leads to much more overtaking and potential accidents. Drivers will certainly need to use all their skills and experience during the 2 hour event. “We debated the track choice for some time, an obvious choice would have been the Circuit de la Sarthe, Nürburgring or Daytona. With all these tracks already featuring in recent events or coming up races we decided against. Silverstone seemed like the appropriate place to stage this event, the long sweeping corners and straights should provide ample overtaking opportunities” - Luke, Porschesport.com
The event will be streamed live by our partners Simracersworld™ who will provide commentary throughout qualifying and the race. Interviews will take place during and after the event. “At Simracersworld we are incredibly pleased to be partners with PorscheSport on this project and we are certain that the event will be a huge success, not only for the drivers but for the motorsport fans as well” Ian - Simracersworld™
