Proton Huber Competition extends championship lead

Proton Huber Competition driver Larry ten Voorde extended his lead in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany standings with two podium finishes. Christoph Huber's team also leads the team standings.

Sixth race weekend of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany at the Sachsenring: Proton Huber Competition brought five Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars to the start on the hill-and-valley track near Chemnitz, which is world-famous for its annual MotoGP guest appearances. In addition to championship leader Larry ten Voorde, his compatriot Flynt Schuring, Horst Felix Felbermayr, Sebastian Freymuth and Alexander Tauscher started for the team from Hofkirchen. Numerous fans made the pilgrimage to the Sachsenring at the weekend and created a fantastic atmosphere on the spectacular track.

Larry ten Voorde finished the first race in fourth position, but the Dutchman made up another place in the final race. After a competitor was disqualified because he failed the technical inspection and was disqualified, the Porsche Carrera Cup veteran moved up to third place. Flynt Schuring also put in an extremely strong race. From sixth on the grid, the young Dutchman moved up two positions and also won the rookie classification. Horst Felix Felbermayr put in a strong performance and was able to finish the race in 14th place after an overtaking manoeuvre on the last lap. Alexander Tauscher and Sebastian Freymuth scored no points after a difficult race and collisions.

On Sunday, Larry ten Voorde once again got the maximum out of the package. With a flawless performance, the successful Dutchman drove to second place and was able to extend his lead in the standings due to the retirement of his biggest title rival. Alexander Tauscher also put in a strong performance. The talented driver from Lower Bavaria finished sixth and scored a good haul of points. Flynt Schuring showed a strong race to catch up. After a tyre failure and an unscheduled pit stop in the starting phase, Schuring stormed up to twelfth position. After a difficult race, Sebastian Freymuth was left without a tangible result, while Horst Felix Felbermayr had to park his car early after a tyre failure.

In the overall standings, Larry ten Voorde was able to extend his overall lead to 51 points. The racing team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria is also in the lead in the team standings. Flynt Schuring is in a strong third position in the rookie classification and is within striking distance of the second-placed driver.

“It was a solid weekend at the Sachsenring,’ said Franziska Lambacher, who is in charge of Proton Huber Competition's Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany entry with Michael Dirsch. ‘The weather was fantastic throughout the weekend and there were plenty of fans on site who also watched our races with enthusiasm. We got the most out of the weekend and Larry was able to extend his lead in the standings. Flynt also impressed us with his rookie win on Saturday and his great comeback on Sunday. A big thank you also to our entire team, who put in a great performance over the past four weekends.’

The Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany continues on the last weekend in September. The traditional one-make series will compete at the picturesque Red Bull Ring in Styria and make its only Austrian guest appearance of the 2024 season. In theory, Larry ten Voorde could already clinch the championship title at the race weekend in the Alpine country.
