Second victory in the Porsche Supercup for Harry King

Harry King celebrated his second win of the season in the fourth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The Englishman started from pole position at the Hungaroring in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of the BWT Lechner Racing team. He also defended this position against Dorian Boccolacci during two restarts after safety car periods on the Formula 1 circuit just outside Budapest. For his part, the Frenchman from Team CLRT was able to keep Porsche Junior Bastian Buus behind him. The 20-year-old Dane remains leader of the standings ahead of the new overall second, his BWT Lechner Racing teammate Harry King.

“I got off to a perfect start. After that I had everything under control and I was able to drive one super lap after the other”, Harry King summed up the way to his second win of the season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The Brit also set a new Supercup lap record for the Hungaroring. At times, King's lead over Frenchman Dorian Boccolacci was more than three seconds. However, two safety car phases nullified this advantage.

It got really exciting again at the end of the second neutralization: there was only one lap left. But King also mastered this situation without mistakes. “Today's win is the result of our hard work in testing. Let's see if I can do the same thing next weekend in Spa-Francorchamps”, the 22-year-old looks forward to the upcoming Supercup race.

“For me, the most exciting thing was the start – I didn't get off to the best possible start. In the first corner, I had Bastian Buus in the left wing mirror and my teammate Benjamin Paque in the right. Luckily I was able to assert myself”, Dorian Boccolacci reviewed the initial phase of the race on the Formula 1 circuit near Budapest. "After that, to be honest, I didn't really stand a chance against Harry. So I'm more than satisfied with second place.”

Porsche junior Bastian Buus struggled with the second safety car phase. “I think I could have overtaken Dorian if the race had gone normally. In some corners I was faster than him. The safety car must have robbed me of this opportunity. But I'm going into the second half of the season as the leader of the standings, that's the most important thing," explained the Dane. In fact, his lead in the overall standings remains at seven points. However, the new second is Harry King, who pushed Larry ten Voorde from this place. The Dutchman from Team GP Elite finished fourth and is now third in the drivers' standings.

Benjamin Paque secured fifth place. The 18-year-old completed the strong performance of the CLRT team and also won the rookie classification of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup for the first time. “My start was perfect and I even fought for second place with Dorian and Bastian. I wasn't able to assert myself, but I'm overjoyed with my best Supercup result so far," said the Belgian. He was joined by Australian Harri Jones (BWT Lechner Racing) and Dutchman Huub van Eijndhoven (GP Elite) on the rookie podium.

“A turbulent race that offered the spectators very good entertainment. One or the other duel was on the limit, but that's part of the Supercup,” commented Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. “Congratulations to Harry King on his convincing performance and to Benjamin Paque on his first rookie win. Now the top four in the overall standings are even closer together – that promises an exciting second half of the season.”

Guest starter Timo Glock experienced an eventful race
The former Formula 1 and DTM driver Timo Glock made a guest start in the VIP 911 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Having started the race from position 24, the Hessian was involved in numerous duels in midfield – including a spin. "I was afraid the guys would drive me in the face. Luckily that wasn't the case. In the duels I learned a lot about how to drive the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup properly. It was definitely an outstanding experience,” summed up Glock, who, despite the spin, worked his way up six positions. His weekend in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is the subject of a documentary by the TV channel Sky Sport, for which Glock accompanies Formula 1.

Next race already next weekend
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup travels directly from Budapest to Spa-Francorchamps. There, the 375 kW (510 hp) Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will compete in the fifth round of the season in a week (July 28 to 30, 2023) as part of the Belgian Grand Prix. Last year, the future Supercup champion Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg won there. Since its inaugural season in 1993, the Supercup has been a regular guest on the 7.004-kilometre Grand Prix circuit in the east of the country. The track is nicknamed the "Ardennes Rollercoaster" because of the alternation of climbs and descents. A combination of curves is one of the most famous in the world: the passage Eau Rouge - Raidillon.
