Start of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux 2023 at Circuit Zandvoort
After the start of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux and the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux this weekend, on Tuesday 16 May it is up to the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux to kick off the 2023 season at Circuit Zandvoort. The competition, whose meetings are always held on one weekday, has shown a lot of potential in recent years and came to full bloom in 2022. In 2023, the organization will therefore continue on the same path, with professional organization, exciting races and all in a real Porsche atmosphere.
The Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux is a competition that has a perfect place in the Porsche Pyramid. This pyramid is based on the Porsche Experience Track Days and continues with the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux, the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux, the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux and, if possible, leads to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
“With our Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux, we are indeed staying true to our philosophy that we presented at the beginning of 2022,” said Lars Plato, the Series Manager of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux. “For example, we always complete all meetings on one day, always on a weekday, which means that the participants, whether racing entrepreneurs or racing students, have no less than 150 minutes 'on track' within a short period of time. Moreover, this year we are not going to three, but to four different circuits. For example, we start at Circuit Zandvoort, after which we go to Assen before the summer holidays. After the summer we will go to Circuit Zolder, a second time to Zandvoort and we will finish at Spa-Francorchamps. Most meetings are joint events with the Porsche Track Experience and track days organized by PON Porsche Import and GP Elite. Together, both programs create a special atmosphere for all participants. A small Porsche festival on the circuit, with a joint Porsche Hospitality that enables drivers and teams to get in touch with like-minded Porsche enthusiasts.”
An important adjustment for the 2023 season concerns the addition of an 'AM' class for both the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup - Type 992 - and Porsche 911 GT3 Cup - Type 991 - and the Porsche Cayman GT4 classes.
Full house in the Dutch dunes
The appeal of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux became clear during the first race of the season in Zandvoort. No less than nine different teams will be present with a starting grid of no less than twenty Porsche. Of course there are many participants who opt for the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – Type 992 – but the various Porsche Cayman GT4 will also provide an exciting battle between themselves. Moreover, in addition to the Belgians and the Dutch, we also see drivers from Lithuania and Romania appear at the start.
The starting field consists of Porsche veterans, gentlemen drivers, young wolves and newcomers, who, after experiences during Porsche Experience Track Days, also want to get acquainted with the competition.
The division of the race days, which of course take place over one day, always starts with the administrative inspection and a free practice session of 60 minutes, followed by a qualifying session of 35 minutes. Both 30-minute races will take place after noon.
