Starting row one in the Supercup for the two Porsche Juniors
Ayhancan Güven (Turkey / Martinet by Almeras) and Jaxon Evans (New Zealand / BWT Lechner Racing) will start the seventh round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup on Sunday from the front row. In qualifying on the Formula 1 racetrack in Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), the two Porsche Juniors were only 19 hundredths of a second apart. “After the less good race in Barcelona, I'm happy about my second pole position this season. It's great that Jaxon starts next to me, ”said Güven. Evans doesn't just have to assert himself against the second Porsche Junior in the first few meters. Teammate Dylan Pereira (Luxembourg), third in qualifying, is lurking right behind him. “A good constellation. In the initial phase, all three of us will certainly act sensibly and not hinder each other, ”said Evans.
Dylan Pereira has the better starting position for the possibly decisive lap in the title duel with leader Larry ten Voorde (Team GP Elite): The Dutchman will only start from sixth on the grid. He has to line up behind Florian Latorre (France / CLRT) and Leon Köhler (Germany / Lechner Racing Middle East), the fastest rookie. "It didn't go optimally," admitted the Dutchman, who was less than three tenths of a second short of the fastest time. "And with the power density in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, that's not enough to be on the front row one or two."
Like Ten Voorde, Dylan Pereira has already won two races this season. In the overall ranking of the international one-make cup with the 485 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, the pursuers are only separated by four points from the championship leader. This means that Pereira's chances of regaining the top of the overall standings are good. “It will be a difficult task. But at least at the start, I'm ahead of Larry, ”said the Luxembourgish optimist.
With a point graduation of 25-20-17-14-12 for the first five of each race, the two Porsche Juniors Ayhancan Güven with 88 points and Jaxon Evans with 82 points still have little chance of winning the title. Only their second win of the season would really help both of them - and a position outside the points for Ten Voorde and Pereira. However, the statistics speak against it. Ten Voorde never finished the last six races worse than fourth, Pereira always finished at least sixth.
The start of the seventh and penultimate round of the 2020 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (CEST). The television channels Eurosport, Sport1 and Sky Sport as well as the streaming services Sport1.de and F1TV.formula1.com broadcast live.
