Strong performance from GT4 Teams at Road America

Fresh off of their third-place result in Sebring, Florida, Trent Hindman (West Long Branch, New Jersey) and Alan Brynjolfsson (Tampa, Florida) rejoined Archangel Motorsports in the No. 7 VOLT Lighting Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport for Round Three of the 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season at Road America. In the last two years, the Hindman/Brynjolfsson pairing has earned two victories at the Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin track under the direction of team principal, Mike Johnson. The most recent win on the 4-mile “National Park of Speed” came in the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport in SRO GT4 America competition.

While changing weather conditions hindered their chances at a Road America podium during last season’s Michelin Pilot Challenge round, both teams where hoping to combine that same speed with their newfound momentum from Sebring at a track that suits the Porsche well.

In a strong twenty car field in the GS class Archangel Motorsports / VOLT lighting and BGB Motorsports who have Jan Heylen and Thomas Collingwood at the wheel are the only Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport teams in a field made up from seven different manufactures.

The 2 hour Michelin Pilot Challenge race on Saturday that resulted in competitors covering two hundred and five miles 51 laps in total. At the start of the race, Hindman was at the controls when the No. 7 endured contact going into turn one. While the Porsche Cayman remained in top shape, the moment set them back several positions to thirteenth. This didn’t prove to be a problem, as Hindman was soon back up to eighth position, when he handed the wheel off to Brynjolfsson. The Tampa Bay driver then fought his way up to forth before the team decided to come in early for the last pit stop in the hopes that they could get back out before the leading cars came past, the plan almost worked but unfortunately with colder tyres on the out lap found themselves losing a couple of places and dropping them down into sixth place.

From there, the the team continued to push forward but could not find a way past the Turner Motorsport BMW in fifth place. With the help of flawless pitstops, and consistent, mistake-free driving, the Cayman was able remain in the top ten and run as high as fourth — ultimately taking the chequered flag in sixth place with the BGB Motorsports crossing the line in fifteenth place.
