Team SimRC take 1000 Mile of Interlagos Honours
At the action-packed official iRacing Sports Car Open 1000 Miles of Interlagos, Team SimRC celebrated their victories. SimRC Titan grabbing 1st place after a racing incident saw Team Core SimRacing loose the lead after a strong performance. After 10 hours of racing the sister car for SimRC, Carbon, took 2nd place making it a top 2 for SimRC.
A total of 42 teams took up the multi class virtual event, the GT3 field saw Audi dominate the entries with the addition of the odd McLaren and Mercedes. GT4 showcased a strong Porsche line up with Core SimRacng taking pole, closely followed by SimRC Titan and HM Engineering.
“Starting on P2 behind the Core GT4 car I had a good start and could maintain the 2nd position. Some slight attacks from the HM Engineering car I could defend successfully. After that, the first stint was just pushing like hell and the first three cars spread out quickly.” Jürgen Frank, the SimRC Titan driver, said after the event.
Both classes were packed with thrills and spills. As always with multi class events, the race involved many overtaking manoeuvres, as the GT3 traffic caught the GT4’s. The Porsche drivers were able to hold their nerve as the virtual GT4 Cup vehicles made their way through.
The GT3 winners, Jurgen Frank, Felix Luding & Claudius Wied, had their work cut out to ensure they kept the Porsche on the tarmac as the father class passed: “The highest priority is to make it possible that they can pass yourself in a safe matter. You have to think about what they might do and decide the right things in these situations. Especially the first time around it is very hard, because many cars want to pass in one corner, so you have to be extra cautious there.” said Jürgen Frank.
The sister car, SimRC Carbon drove by Marcel Fassbender, Phillip Weber and Dylan Pereira had it all to do with a 10th in class grid position from qualifying. Using an aggressive fuel strategy and navigating traffic well, they managed a very respectable 2nd place to lock out the top two for SimRC. “The Titan car went on fuel saving for 60 lap stints. And the Carbon car went on the full throttle strategy with an extra pit stop. We did that because the Carbon car started some places behind. It did work out quite nicely” - Jürgen Frank.
Whilst an unlucky end for Team Core Sim Racing this multi class event demonstrated just how exciting motorsport can be on a simulator. Third place again went to HM Enineering, with Core SimRacing & Mivano SimRacing finishing in fourth and fifth.
