Teenage racer Will Aspin aiming to continue form as Carrera Cup heads to Cheshire

Italian teenager Will Aspin is set to resume action in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this weekend (June 11/12) as he and the series travel to Cheshire’s Oulton Park for rounds five and six of the season.

The picturesque venue provides a stern test for drivers with a mixture of fast, sweeping bends coupled with a tight hairpin and chicane along an undulating 2.26 mile ‘Island’ circuit configuration. If that wasn’t enough to get the heart racing, it also features a narrow track with barriers in close proximity for much of the lap, meaning any error tends to be severely punished.

Will comes into the weekend in second place in the Pro-Am class of the series, despite a setback last time out at Brands Hatch, where victory in race one was followed by an unfortunate DNF after slight contact sent him off into the gravel while battling to hold onto his lead.

Surprisingly, Will has not raced at Oulton Park before, though he has tested there with Team Parker Racing in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machine, so knows what he will be facing when he heads out on track on Wednesday, June 8th, for an official test day ahead of two practice sessions on Friday.

Qualifying is due to open proceedings on the morning of Saturday, June 11th, at 09:05, with the first of two 18 lap races scheduled for 14:15 that afternoon. The second contest is due to get underway at 13:35 the following day, with coverage of the race broadcast live on ITV1 and on ITV Hub online.

“We should be in for a good weekend after Brands Hatch, where race one went well, even if race two didn’t go to plan. We had strong pace in the dry and wet, and we've just got to continue that this weekend, as it is looking a bit wet, but hopefully it will change, and we'll have more of a dry one. Last time we were there testing we did well, so we’ll have to try and keep that up, though I've never raced at Oulton Park, so it will be a new experience, but one I will enjoy.

“Each time we head out for qualifying we're getting better and better. We should qualify in the top ten this weekend but you never know. The times were very close on the short Brands Hatch Indy circuit, but it's a longer lap at Oulton Park. Hopefully it is close again because it's a lot more exciting for me and, in a way, it tells how good the competition is this year. You just need to hook up the lap.

“It will be nice to have most of my sponsors at the circuit as well, as it is the closest race to where most of them are based in Leeds. I am extremely grateful for their support and belief in me, so it will be great to try and repay them with some success.”
