TFT fight back to take podium at Red Bull Ring

Saturday's International GT Open race one was of full of surprises at the Red Bull Ring. On its home track the debuting KTM X-BOW GTX Concept crossed the line as the winner in the Pro Class with Stefan Rosina and Patric Niederhauser at the wheel of the Reiter Engineering-developed car, but in the post-race technical verifications the car was disqualified because the non-compliance of the brake discs size which Reiter immediately appealed. While waiting for the results of the appeal the Teo Martín Motorsport McLaren piloted by Miguel Ramos and Henrique Chaves won the race.

In his return to the GT Open, Fran Rueda was second, together with Marcelo Hahn, in the other 720S of the Spanish squad, after taking pole and dominating the first stint. A safety-car intervention right before the opening of the driver change window erased the advantage (15 seconds) built by Rueda and benefitted the Slovak-Swiss duo of KTM.

In AM Class the GetSpeed duo composed of Florian Scholze and Jens Lieberhauser controlled the race, taking a fourth seasonal win ahead of the other Mercede of Alex Moiseev and Alexey Nesov (AKM Motorsport) and of Christian Hook and Manuel Lauck (SPS Automotive). Niki Leutwiler in the PZ Oberer Zurichseie by TFT Porsche GT3 R had to start the race from the back after having technical difficulties during the morning qualifying.

Despite having to start at the back of the grid Leutwiler made great progress in the early stages of the race moving up into second in class, Leutwiler continued to push and was closing in on the AM leader when he was hit from behind spinning him round and into the gravel beaching the Porsche. The incident meant that the safety car was deployed while the Porsche was retrieved, Leutwiler did rejoin the race but by now was a lap down and was unable to retake any position back before the checkered flag.

In Sunday's race leutwiler started in fourth and made up one place on lap one. Positions stayed the same up until the pits stops where a well-executed pit stop enabled Leutwiler to move up one position into third in class twelfth overall. Leutwiler continued to push moving up two places to second in class tenth overall with twenty minutes left to race. With ten minutes left of racing Leutwiler was lapping faster than the pro leader and chasing down the AM Leader, drama followed shortly after with three of the Pro leaders all involved in an incident that brought out the safety car. There was only one lap left to race on the restart and immediately Leutwiler was putting pressure on the AM leader but was also under pressure from the third place AM car, Leutwiler held on to take second crossing the line tenth overall.

In the PRO Class the Aston Martin of TF Sport took it’s second win of the season as Charlie Eastwood and Salih Yoluç dominated the race. They beat the AF Corse APM Monaco Ferrari of Louis Prette and Vincent Abril who stole second in the final lap from Patric Krupinski and Christian Klien (JP Motorsport Mercedes) and Miguel Ramos and Henrique Chaves (TMM McLaren).
