Macau and Porsche: a storied history Having held is first event in 1954, the Macau GP has long been considered one of Asia’s most prestigious annual motorsport events. Many of the biggest names in motorsport history, including Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, cut their teeth at the Macau GP before conquering the world of F1. With a length of 6.2 kilometres and minimum width of just 7 metres, the Guia Circuit is recognised as one of the most demanding in the world. The combination of long, fast straights and tight corners always provides scope for a thrilling race.

The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has previously held seven races in Macau. The Guia Circuit served as the finale for the first ever Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season all the way back in 2003, with the series first champion Charles Kwan taking the victory in that race. During the series’ first five years from 2003-2007, the season finale was held in Macau each year, with the final visits to Macau being held in 2009 and 2013. Porsche Beijing Central & Goldenport’s Li Chao is the only Carrera Cup Asia driver on the field this year to have competed in the series’ previous appearance in Macau. The current Macau GT Cup (FIA GT World Cup) lap record is held by two-time former Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion Earl Bamber, who clocked a time of 2:17.182 in a Porsche 911 GT3 R back in 2019. Our current roster also boasts a number of Macau GT stars from the 2020 event, including BD Group’s Leo Ye.
